My customer wants me to service his flower beds around the house. They are right now overgrown with bushes and weeds and no edges. I've serviced his lawn twice and he is one of the higher profit props I have, so I want to try and do this at a good price to keep the cust. even if I have little to no experience in this, I feel I can do the job and gain experience.
Here is what he wants me to do:
Trim back the bushes, give the beds a nice edge and mulch the beds. I can handle the edge part, but have never done mulch (except a few bags from HomeDepot around my own house), and also never used a hedge trimmer.
The total size of the beds is 730 sq/ft varying in depth from 2 to 7 feet deep. Some branches are over an inch thick on the bushes.
It contains:
2 holly trees 10 ft tall
7 holly bushes 6 ft or taller
9 burning bush (I think is the name) 5-6 ft tall
2 spreading cedar bushes each covering a 6-7 ft diameter
2 large boxwood bushes 6 ft tall
My Questions:
How much mulch do I need?
How much can I fit in my 5x10 open w/ gate?
Can a good commercial hedge trimmer cut the branches? I will need to by one. I have a 14" chain saw.
How do I price this job?
I can pull my trailer around the house to access the beds but don't know how long it takes to spread mulch. He also wants me to haul it all off and I know how to figure this into my quote. He wants the bushes at 2 ft tall and trees half way down.
He also has a large ditch he wants filled in with rock. Using my good eyeball and a tape measure I figured about 800+ qubic feet.
I have contacted the local water company to inspect and OK the job, the cust said there is hardly any water even during heavy rains.
I figured I can sub the work to someone with a dump truck and the know-how and tack on a percentage for profit. I'm overwhelmed as it is!
I think I can pull this off but need guideance and a crash course in landscaping 101!
Thanks for any help!
