  • Power Wash New Vehicles

I was in a car dealership ordering a new truck. I noticed 2 young guys power washing all of the vehicles on the lot. Equipment was a 12 foot trailor, 300 gal farm pesticide tank, washer, and shams. Never thought of this as source of additional income before. Any of you guys ever considered this and how would you price it. It would have to be either hourly rate or by the vehicle I would think.

$1 a car and try to wash each one within a minute

Scott, not sure if your serious, but that sounds cheap. Not ever doing it before I can't imagine $1 per being profitable.

But if you can do one per minute then that would be $60 per hour. If not how long do you think it will take per car? Also note that an automatic carwash gets $10 for the works.

I'm sure Mr.Scott was serious, he knows a great deal about pressure washing...

Now if he would have said $18.50, he probably wasn't serious.

Something to think about, do you think you would get much more than a $1 a car out of a Dealership?

I guess when you break it out at 60 per hour, that makes since. As far as what you could get from a dealer, I am sure they would balk at much more than that. The 2 guys I saw looked like they had a workable routine. One of them was washing, the other one drying. Now that I think about it they were moving pretty fast.

I had actually thought of adding this service to my landscape company. I had explored the idea of washing LP gas tanks. Don't know if they have it done, but I see a lot of painting on them through the summer.

I would have to add another man and make him solely responsible for this if I did do it.

big difference in size---> 550 dually vs a dodge neon. One will take longer than the other obviously..

Sorry I was so short on the previous post and as usual I'm always running behind.

First off I've never done any of this type of pw'ing but this is what I know from hearsay.
Obviously large trucks, vans and SUV's run more but the average for new cars is a buck and most dealers won't go any higher than $1.50 for large vehicles. The ones just off the delivery truck may need a little more work but the ones that have been on the lot should be fairly easy. The guys that really make money at this type of service use a deionizing unit which allows minimal wipedown after the wash, along with the proper chems and equipment. Personally I'd rather wash a house for a couple 2-3 hundred bucks in a few hours verses busting my butt trying to wash 200 jam pack cars for the same price.

too many variables, how big and how dirty, is water available? Do they want just wash down or chrome to shine? how much competition do you have? relubing is another fee and is a must on all these machines. Pressure would have to be less than 2k with a good fan tip.

skids would be in the neighborhood of $100
excavators (size does mater) can get up to $400
                    dumps (15/16 yd'er) around $100

try to figure about $60-$90 per hour per person depending on water availibility, chems used or not(the right type will make or break you), hot water used or not(hot is the only way to really get the job done quick with good results), lube, etc...

Fleet washing is good money like; UPS, FED EX, school buses, etc... but you'll have to work the 3rd shift and you'll need to reclaim.
