  • hiring contractors plus insurance

hi im trying to figure out the best way to pay a foreman. i have a really trustworthy guy he would be a great foreman to lead my future crew.

my question is i plan to give about 35 percent i dont know if its too much and i know i need to have some left over for insurance and repairs plus my salary. i have all the equipment and ready to roll. i plan to hire another guy hourly so i can limit my work cause i am allergic to grass a bit.
    mower.

Allergic to grass - me thinks you be in the wrong bussiness.

Pay them both hourly, one more than the other unless you mean a percentage of the profit only and not gross.

Ron Howard: Is that... vodka... and wheat grass?
Homer: It's called a "lawnmower". I invented it. Want one?

I don't have enough info regarding what you collect per man hour to deterrmine a good pay scale for your employee(s).

But I can tell you about guys who have come and gone over my 24 years of business experience who have made the mistake of paying most of their earnings per hour to employees and having very little cash flow to run their business affairs. Even though good employees are a business asset to make you more money, I think it would be better if you were the foreman and hire for the qualities you seek and then train one of them in to take your place. That way, you are the teacher and you know what you are going to get for your money.
