  • Weeds in the lawn. Help!

I have tried uprooting the weed and applied many pesticides but ended up with a burnt lawn. I don't know how to get rid of all these weeds. Please suggest

Re: Weeds in the lawn. Help!

Here are my suggested steps towards attaining a relatively weed free lawn that would consist of mostly fescue (zone 7):

    1. In winter, apply a dose of lime at a rate of 40 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.
    2. In late winter to very early spring, apply one treatment of pre-emergent weed killer at a rate of 40-50 lbs per 1/4 acre.
    - It is a good idea to switch from barricade to dimension (and back and forth) about every 4-5 years as weeds will develop a tolerance towards the treatments.
    3. Before the first mow go over the entire machine and make sure it is ready.
    - For example, with riding mowers check that tire pressure is up to spec, make sure the blade is sharp, and so on.
Yes, if oil needs changing now would be a good time to do this, same goes for air filter and spark plug and anything else it might need because it is good to have a mower that only needs gasoline the rest of the year.
    4. Minimum recommended cut height is 3" but honestly speaking the higher, the better.
    - Double cutting (twice over the whole yard) may be required in the spring, once temperatures rise much over 80 you'll want to cut back on frequency as well.
    5. If you have an irrigation system, it is a good idea to call the irrigation company in the early spring and have them turn the system on but don't run it yet.
    - You may wish to run the irrigation system once temperatures rise past 85 degrees, duration over frequency (longer is better, more often doesn't help much).
For example, it is better to run a sprinkler for 30 minutes twice a week than it would be to run it for 10 minutes a day.
Not only does it save water, but you want water to get down into the soil (aka penetration) and for that you need duration.
    6. In summer, apply a dose of lime at a rate of 40 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft.
    7. In the early fall (once temperatures drop down to 90 or less) core aerate and seed at a rate of 50 lbs of seed per 1/4 acre.

When the temperatures are cooler the grass will tend to grow faster, requiring more frequent mows.
Schedule your mows accordingly, cutting less frequently once it gets hot.

All of these will help promote a deep root system and over the years a healthy lawn.

Weeds are the main problem in the Lawn. The type of grass also decides the weed growth. Always use a right one for the place. Use Organic ways of fertilizing your Lawn.
Landscape Maintenance is must for weed removal.

              Here are some recommendations:

              * Always mow at the recommended mowing height
              * Supplement natural rainfall by irrigating your lawn
              * Keep your lawn well-fed with quality weed & feed or fertilizer-only products

I would lay a piece of lawn with tiles. You will care less for the lawn. And on this site you can also arrange a barbecue. I would order a tile with an engraving https://polarengraving.com, on which there would be a family logo or the names of family members, photos of animals. Anything you can think of.
