  • New house w/new grass seed issues

We bought a new house here in Southern Maryland. When they graded the yard, they put fertilizer over the red clay type dirt and added Fescue grass seed then put hay over to help hold in the moisture.

We have been here for just over 2 months and the grass is dying, has lots of bare spots, and there are lots of weeds taking over the lawn. I have tried to reseed in the bare spots by loosening up the dirt, adding new seed and adding hay. I have been watering it every evening when I get home from work, but the new grass seedling spouts are dying and the lawn seems to be getting worse.

I'm at a loss of what to do! I have read that if I add weed killer to the yard, it will kill the new grass as it is too new. I was thinking of getting a pallet of top soil from Lowes, add that over the yard to help retain moisture and start a scotts annual treatment plan.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I will add some pictures of the lawn in a bit!

    thanks,
    -Jon-
