I've read if you keep your decks clean, they can last twice as long? I am considering buying a pressure sprayer to clean the bottom of the decks, but I heard that this erodes and rust the decks. Anyone have any experiences cleaning decks with pressure sprayers? [8]

I use my pressure washer on the decks alll the time and it works great. I don't understand why someone would worry about the deck rusting from running a pressure washer under it when these machines most likely sit outside all the time at the dealer before you purchase them. I don't know if strait air pressure would do the trick, but if others say it does then it must. If you buy a pressure washer to cean your mowers, you can also start doing pressure washing of decks (wood ones attached to residential properties) and expand your services.

Never pressure wash your deck or any part of your mower. This practice can introduce water to bearings, bushings, electrical connectors, switches, cooling fins etc.
If you insist on washing your mower be careful to not wet console, electrical components, bearings and bushings, or engine. After washing mower should be completely lubricated & the engine should be run with blades engaged.
Much better to use a wire brush attach on a drill or scraper to clean underside of mower deck & blow debris off outside of unit with a BP & or AC.

Yes, you do have to be careful when washing your mower with water to not get any water in the small electrical parts or that stuff. But IMO, if you clean it while the mower is running and you run the blades afterward and grease and lubricate everything, you will not have any problems. I have been doing it for 10 years now and have never run into a problem from it.

my wife just heard on the news that they are requiring us to wash our mowers between jobs with soap and water in the areas were there is citrus canker "utility and lawn-care workers will be required to decontaminate at least their shoes and their equipment with heavy-duty soap before entering and exiting a grove or back yard."

heck.i been washing underneath all our decks with water for years.has not hurt anything yet.no different than cutting grass that might have dew on it .as long as it gets a chance to dry out, shouldn'hurt anything long as you dont get it in the bearings.[]Conan, what is best in life? I talked with the head of the maintenance department about this a while back. He said that air is the best way to clean if you can.
I told him that I also use a pressure washer to clean. He said that that would be okay as long as you grease and lube afterwards.
Under the deck was not in question that is designed to get wet. It was the rest of the machine I was wondering about when i asked him the question.
It is important to also keep the pressure wash away from the electrical.Wayne
