  • Guidance on a Mulch Estimate...Please

I am providing a quote to a developer for mulching the entrance to a very nice neighborhood. Neighborhood is there....i.e built last year.

ENtrance to neighborhood has quite a bit of mulching that needs to be done......flower beds and around a bunch of trees.

I plan on putting a top-coat of 2" and figure it to require 23 cubic yards. The mulch can be delivered and dumped right next to the beds so there will not be a whole lot of distance to transpoort it. GOing to use 8 cu ft wheel barrels to place the mulch.

The price I worked up for labor is $1,150 which includes any minor weeding I might need to do (beds are in really good shape). The mulch will cost $490 delivered....and I'll add 25% on that....so my final price will be $1,640.

Any opinions on that price would be appreciated....to high....to low.....just about right...,,,and WHY? i.e. How many hours should it take??

    THanks everyone.

        Mulch

We just did a job for 6 yards and charged 600$ almost done with that and have a bidd into a bank for 15 yards at 1500$ but if that is too much i would try and get 75$ at least

agree, find out the amout of mulch you need and set a price per yard on that. you can make really fast money with mulch.
if the area is as nice as you say it is, i would go about 50per yd, no less than that... not at all.

SOunds like if anything I may be a bit low.....that's cool though. Hopefully I will get the job.....hate to leave money on the table, but, it is the biggest mulch job I have biud on and it could lead to a lot of other work for the builder. ALl the homes have Homeowner association that picks a single lawn care company to do all cutting, landscaping, snow removal, etc....so hopefully I can get my foot in the door on this one!

THanks for the feedback everyone....I feel better because of it!

Does anyone have an estimate on what they charge for laying down pine needles? I have a woman who wants me to do it, and I have no idea what to charge her "Per Bail". Any info would be great! Thanks!

                    Pine Needles Around Charlotte

Low end of scale: $7.50 delivered and installed
High end of scale: $9.00 delivered and installed

The clean, long pine needles look the best ($4-5 per bale)...get someone to show you to "roll and tuck" the bed edges using a blower for professional results.
