  • How much Roundup to kill 3,000 sq ft of grass?

How much would I need to do this?

    Thank you.

    1) BE LICENSED TO DO THIS! The fines for doing it without being licensed are steep.

    2) READ THE LABEL! Now, if you were licensed, you would know that THE LABEL IS THE LAW!

it's funny, everytime when someone asked a question about herbicides, they never get an answer.

it's always, UHHHH. ARE YOU LICENSED?

You get that first fine for being unlicensed, it won't be funny. It depends on the application rate. If unsure, check with the supplier on how to figure how much you need.

a couple of three gallon tanks (maybe 3) should do it. If you use some blue dye you'll be able to track your spraying so you don't miss spots. All this assuming you are licensed to spray chemicals for profit.

Nothing funny about it. It's OBVIOUS he is NOT licensed.

What is funny about loosing good chemicals (which happens every year) because unlicensed morons misapply them and poison our waterways, destroy wildlife, and cause hazardous conditions on people's lawns that poison their cats and dogs? THIS CRAP HAPPENS EVERY DAY!

It is MY CHOICE to try and EDUCATE people in the PROPER manner of doing things, not just hand them some answer like another MINDLESS idiot!

Oh, and everyone be forewarned. If I see you applying chemicals around here where I live, I'm going to call the Dept. of Ag. and report you. I'll let THEM determine if you are licensed or not. This is due to seeing some RETARD (who was a "lawn care guy") applying chemicals near a creek, and driving by the next day to see all of the dead fish downstream.

No more Mr. Niceguy here. Anyone applying chemicals where I live can expect a visit from the state.

              Well here's the deal

You're I'm not licensed, but this is my next door neighbor, and I might even have him apply to it his own lawn 7-10 days before the job, which I thought was legal. It's also a dense residential Jersey town. There's no wildlife except for a few squirells and all pets are in fenced in yards. There is one cat who roams the neighborhood annoying the hell out of all the dogs including mine, and to be honest I would be less than heartbroken if he croaked. Please calm down, this is not a huge job in a nature preserve. They sell Roundup in your local hardware store. I would bet my life 99% of Roundup users are not licensed applicators. I know it's very potent stuff, I've used it many times, but it's not like it's some radioactive material that's gonna wipe out my whole neighborhood.

Here in NC you have to be licensed to apply chemicals for profit. The homeowner can apply over the counter chemicals such as roundup to his own lawn without a pesticide license. Your laws may very, but I'd bet they are similar.

The homeowner applying it is fine. Tell them to READ THE FRIGGING LABEL.

As for your blatant disregard for the law.... This is how a typical scrub operates. Elevate yourself from the ranks of the scrubs and do it CORRECTLY. You'll get all the help you could ever want around this place, as long as you are on the up-and-up. You have already gotten the advice of "if you aren't licensed to do this, then sub it out", but have chosen to IGNORE this sage advice. People are trying to guide you in the PROPER way of doing things, but it's obvious you're not going to follow their advice because you can't see any reason to.

Here, let me spell a few things out for you.

                  Subbing it out will.....

                  1) Establish a working business relationship with a licensed applicator. This will pay benefits MANY times over. He will refer work to you (and you will make more money), and you will refer work to him (and take your 20% referral fee, which means you make more money). You can count on it. You are GOING TO NEED him in the future. You can tack on 20% over what he charges you for this job, and that money goes RIGHT INTO YOUR POCKET! JUST FOR MAKING A PHONE CALL!

                  2) Release you from liabilty should something go wrong! This is a BIG benefit! No worries about a civil lawsuit, losing your house, business, every cent to your name, etc.

                  3) Keep you from paying higher liability insurance rates (because you do not apply pesticides).

                  4) Make you appear as more professional. (No Mr. Homeowner, I can't tell you what that weed is, but MY CHEMICAL GUY CAN, BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST THERE IS! THAT IS WHY I USE HIM. It would take me 20 years to try and learn everything he knows!)

                  5) Keep your paperwork to a minimum. YOU don't have to keep all the paperwork on all the pesticides applied to all the properties for years, like your applicator will.

                  6) Keep your life a whole lot simpler. No worries about how you are storing pesticides (because you don't deal with them), etc.

                  7) Keep your headaches to a minimum. You are calling in a professional with years of experience. They are familiar with problems in your area that are common, and most of which are totally unknown to you.

                  8) Provide a source of education. That's right, a FREE source of education for you! Most applicators will answer your questions, and give you tips and hints from their YEARS of experience. This will ultimately help you in your business, and can be a HUGE benefit should you decide to take the applicator's test a few years down the road.

                  9) Reduce your cost of doing business.

Now, the choice is yours. You do it how you see fit. Just remember, word-of-mouth advertising will either MAKE you or BREAK you. Should you establish a BAD reputation from the start, it will be impossible to turn it around short of leaving the area and starting anew somewhere else.

Another mistake you are making is doing work for a neighbor at a REDUCED RATE. This will come back to bite you squarely on your ass. You have yet to learn about the cost of doing business.

Keep in mind that I am not taking shots at you, just offering advice. SOUND advice.
