        I think everyone loves their stuff and has had problems with other stuff. What is the difference? My Shins have always started right up, 2 years--no problems.

        Find a dealer that is close by and will take care of you. As long as it is commercial quality and you take care of it, it should last.

        Good luck,

        Michael

          We used Stihl trimmers and hand held blower for the 06 season and we are going to switch to Red Max Or Shindaiwa had too many problems getting Stihls started when hot 90 F and above.Dealer changed carb on blower and it helped some, but I"am still not happy with it. Just my 2 cents worth !!!:laughing:

            I've got both Stihl and Echo hand tools and blowers. I like the Echo blowers better than the Stihl but buy the Stihl because the frame design of the BR420 works well with sitting on blower racks designed specifically for them.

            As to the hand tools, when given a choice, my employees always pick up the Echo stuff. The Echo stuff gets used more and spends less time in the shop. Based on this experience, all the new hand tools will be Echo. I haven't used Shin, Redmax, Kaw or any of the other brands so some of them may be better. I can get parts for an Echo or Stihl just about anywhere though, and that counts for something.

              If you buy Shin, all other stuff will collect dust. Personal buys are T-260's for trimmers and EB-630's for blowers. I also keep a Shin power broom, edger and trimmers.

                Wow this is an old thread-anyway;
                My preferences FWIW:
                • Stihl BR-600 blower. Very comfortable and powerful enough to get the job done. I also have a BR-85 HH for cleaning off the trucks or shooting the dog, son, cats, etc...
                • Stihl MS-440 chain saw with 20” bar
                • Stihl HT100 pole pruner or hedge trimmer. I used mine all day long yesterday…very tough and also fun.
                • Stihl FS-250 trimmer for heavy jobs
                • Shindawa 231T for lighter jobs. Both the 231 and 250 are terrific. Stihl has always been hard to start but the Shin starts by looking at it.
                • Honda HRC-216 WB. GM’s recommendation and he was right on.
                • John Deere ZTRs. They have the best deck on earth. I do want to buy a Scag. Never owned one. If you could put the Deere deck on the Scag ….
                • Kubota tractors. Be very careful which one you buy if you get an even number cylinder. The engines have to be perfectly balanced or you will have very high vibration. I went through two B7800s before I found the right one. They are by far the most used CUT in Oregon. 30 HP/1750 pounds they can run up a hill like no other in their class.

                  I use echo PE-230s, SRM 230s, PB 620s, and SHC 260s. They seem to have the best all-around pruduct for me.....just my .02

                    You are 100% right on about the Stihl and hand held blowers, and trimmers being HARD to start in the heat!!! We are going to change to Red Max trimmers and Shindaiwa blowers. Hedge trimmers we have an Echo 150 and RedMax 2400 and both do o.k. RedMax 7000 series backpack blowers are excellent blowers also.
