  • Curved shaft edger vs. Straight shaft

Is there a difference in equipment performance in both of these? Or is it just personal preference? I use a straight shaft trimmer because of better reach than a curve but what about edgers? Thanks.

    Go straight. Better power.

curved shafts run a spring/cable from the PH to the gearcase. Straight shafts run a solid shaft from PH to gearcase. Less torque loss with the solid shaft.

Like they both said, get a straight shaft you have better tq thus better cutting.

          Straight Shaft......................

now there are times when alittle curve to ones shaft is beneficial.

The same can be said for trailer leaf springs too.

on Echo high torque trimmers (straight shaft) they start putting cable shafts inside - to relief stress and wear on centrifugal clutch and joints - i guess

Curved shafts are for women who don't like to use a straight shaft. The other thing about a curved shaft is that it rotates in the opposite direction of a straight shaft.
