  • Truck with Best Fuel Mileage?

Anyone have any recommendations? Not a diesel. I'm looking to buy 2 fairly cheap trucks that get decent fuel mileage.

I'm debating on a V-6 or maybe even a 4 cyl. These trucks will only be pulling about 2500 lbs, so that's not much.

I'm wondering if the newer V-6's will get as good of fuel mileage as a 4 cyl that has to work a little harder.

    I don't want a V-8 or diesels, I've got those.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I've read that the advertised Chevy mileage is really far off. But that was with their full sized trucks. There was a big stink either last year or the year before when they were claiming better fuel mileage than the Tundra, but in tests the Tundra was better than advertised and the Chevy was worse.....putting the Toyota ahead.

The full sized Chevy's I've got have been pretty good. After the first few minor issues, they've been pretty reliable and I can't complain at all. But they get around 13mpg.

I REALLY wish someone would come out with a 4 cyl diesel in a truck about the size of the previous model Tundra.

My cabovers get better mileage than the Chevy's but the next guy in line to drive them would worry me on a manual transmission. The tranny's/clutch are still original, and I'd hate for him to tear them up. It makes sense to look for a small pickup truck for him instead.

It will likely be a used truck.

If you were around like you used to be you would have seen my thread on the Mahindra truck. Too bad it'll never make it to the states. :alien::alien::alien:

Yeh, I mentioned the Mahindra truck a few years ago and I think Scott was talking about it way back then as well. You're right, it is a bummer that they aren't here right now.

Yeah, I have a 4.3l v-6 in my Chevy k1500. It gulps enough gas you'd think it was a v-8. I understand it's 4 wheel drive, but even with 2wd I can't imagine this engine has good fuel economy. I love the used auto dealer down the road selling a 1/2ton with the 4.3l (much like mine), claims "The V6 engine should do great on gas!" He's right, it should, but it doesn't.:laughing::laughing:

I just put $400 (starter, new brake lines, fuel & air filter) into my A-title 1992 C-1500 4.3v6 autoOD 4.10 limited slip rear axle and it runs like new again.

It's got only 114,000 miles on the clock and with a pair of cab corners and a paint job it will also look like new.

With the 4.10 ratio I get between 15mpg and 18mpg depending on the load being carrier or towed.

I bought this machine new with a 3.08 open rear end and 25 mpg highway was real with 100% unleaded fuel.

85- 93 FS Ford with five speed hand shaker and the 300 I-Six gets 16 mpg properly tuned. One in my family has 220k and runs real reliable for its fourth family member.

A clutch and a radiator is all its needed beyond tires brakes and plugs filters. Fuel pump was two months ago.
