  • Solo Backpack Blowers

Hi I'm new here,,, been reading for a while but just joined.

Originally I was on the same page as a lot of the posts that I've read, but after taking a chance on one of these blowers (reconditioned 471 KAT... because I wasn't sure,,, just on a budjet $299...but three blowers later....)
I've got to say after reading alot of posts that these blowers are probably - no, not even probably... the best that are currently made and I'll say my piece about why.

First of all, they ROCK! I mean, they just get the job(s) done and are MORE than a match for the other commercial blowers that I own/use. I prefer it to my BR600, MUCH prefer it to the Echo 751 and (my brothers 755) It's easily a match (and my 472 is stronger) for the Redmax 8000 and much quiter, lighter and goes longer on a tank of fuel. It has a dual ring, pure 2 cycle design, with an easily cleaned air filter, comfortable easy to adjust harness and it doesn't kill my ears.

I keep reading these posts about 'uhhh, yeah, it's good but wait until you need parts...' sort of thing. Ok, good point....but most of these posters don't seem to actually 'own' one...

I now have four of these things (2 471's, 2 472's) and the only one of them that has ever needed parts (going on four years for the early one) is the second 471 that I bought a new muffler and manifold for only to upgrade to the 472 specs. By the way that is 255mph and like 870 cfm.

Also to address the other comment that I read a lot is that the Solo specs are 'probably at the housing, not at the tube.'

Not true. All Solo blowers stated specs are usable, end of tube, reality statements. Just take one out against your BR600 or whatever and you'll see what I mean.

Of course, a new 472 will set you back as much as any other new commercial blower, but you're buying a nice piece of German-engineered equipment (think Porsche 911 or BMW) that will last you a long, long time - and NOT from a big mass-produced Home depot-sold brand like Husq or Echo - or an only-from-the-dealer-Stihl which they'll fix... but watch the price tag.... To be honest the last time my Br600 was serviced it was not running good, and it was not improved $120 later...

You can easily upgrade a 471 if you are even the slightest bit handy, (a 472 will upgrade YOU!) and they are REALLY easy to repair and parts are totally reasonable and quickly shipped from the website - which, although most posters have not checked out... has been in Virginia for like 20 years. When I call too, I talk to the senior tech... a nice change from the stihl nightmare I've been dealing with...

    Anyway, just my 2 cents...
