  • Trimming evergreen hedges in Alabama in June

I have read a lot online saying that it's good to trim hedges in june/July so I started trimming mine today. The parts I trimmed look dead and bare. Will they regrow? We bought this house recently and hedges are new to me. They are terribly neglected and overgrown. Is there a better time to do this?

A little bit of browning is normal after some trimming. If you went too crazy the plant may be trying to adjust. Also possible that the plant didn't get enough water recently, I know Alabama is going through a period of low rainfall at the moment. Wouldn't stress too much.

Also depends on what kind of hedge you have and how hard you cut them back. I'm in the northeast and trimming a Yew or a Privet hedge is completely different than trimming a Juniper or a Boxwood. No idea what plants are common hedges in your area.
