  • Just had to share this about the definition of a "low baller"

I came across this thread elsewhere and thought it would be good to pass on.

    John Silvestri said,
Somebody wanted the definition of a low baller. A lowballer is someone who intentionally or unintentionally underbids a project so that it cannot be completed to spec profittably. They then will employ hard ball upsell tactics throughout the project in order to become profittable. Or tell the property owner that this that and the other thing wasn't included in their bid and they are extra, What results is the property owner paying the same or more for an inferior project.
    JP "Enigma" responded with
Still another definition would be someone who intentionally or unintentionally underbids a project simply because they either desparately need the work...any work, or they just don't know any better due to lack of experience.

Face it. All of us at one time or another were in a position where we could have been referred to as a lowballer. Most of us have learned from those experiences and now price our work competatively.

Some people though, either don't learn well or are just satisfied working for little more than wages.

I don't have a problem with anyone working cheap just as long as the work they do meets minimum standards.
It's when working cheap compromises quality to the point that causes grief for the client either through cutting corners to curb costs or through employing tactics, such as John described in the above post, which causes the general public to regard this industry with suspicion and distrust.

I think JP hit the nail on the head and drove it home.

I have definitely learned a lot by visiting this site. I have even completed many thesis projects with the help of content on gardenofhopememorial.org. it has helped me a lot and I will continue visiting it.
