Hi All,
I'm in NJ and have my applicator license for Turf & Ornamental. I have Pesticide Insurance coverage and submitted my application to the state so I will be getting my Pesticide Business License in the next 1-2 weeks. For the last two years, I've just been doing lawn maintenance & landscaping part time and I'm working out of my home while keeping my day job as an aerospace engineer.
I have a 2 car garage but I am in a residential development so I can't really set up a large pesticide mixing/equipment washing bay. My plan is to use only granular product to start and to buy only what I need for the day's work and only store an extra bag or so if absolutely necessary. My plan is to work this way until I build enough sales/revenue to buy/lease a small commercial site where I can then properly setup for liquid applications.
I think this will work since I get a lot of requests for round-up and/or the granular 4 step programs they've seen on TV.
Has anyone started this way? I'm looking for any advice on what I can do to setup a small pesticide storage area and/or handling procedures to safely get started from home. There are no homeowner's associations and zoning allows me to run a home based business (as long as customers don't come to the house).
My rig is a F150 with a 6x12 enclosed trailer. I will label the trailer as a pesticide vehicle and store the granular product in an enclosed bin inside the trailer when making applications. I've toyed with the idea of making this a "mobile pesticide storage area".
Has anyone else started from a similar situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Best Regards,
Jason
