How do you guys go about becoming a legit company. I have just turned 18 and want everything to be done right. What type of business licence do most of you guys have and what can I expect for insurance? I do mainly lawncare, but hope to expand more into landscape construction and design as I go for my degree in it in college. Also what is the best way to aquire accounts from someone? I have a friend who has 35 lawn accounts that he is turning over to me due to his moving to FL for college. I will be starting all of these next season. Should I send out letters to all of them or go to each one individually. Going around to each one sounds more professinal to me but what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

    Hello James:
It would be real nice if he would take you around & introduce you to all the customers personally at their properties.

    You know the old sayings...
Out of sight, out of mind.
    &
    Seeing is Believing!

A face to face introduction will help you far more than a letter or you just showing up one day & saying Hey Y'all I'm here to cut yo grass, you remember Mike telling you about me? What? Folks have short memories!

After meeting them, you send them a "Happy Holidays" card & tell them how it was nice meeting them & how you look forward to making their lawns look beautiful next year!

Then in a few months you'll be able to Rock to Ya Drop! While meeting them you might see if they need any extra work done... Snow Removal or what ever?

Sounds like you will be walking into a good thing next year!

    Good Luck to Ya!

yea, definately go around and introduce yourself. I picked up a few accounts over the summer from a friend, and I went around to each one and introduced myself. I was able to tell them what other services in depth better than what would be described on paper. The customers most likely felt better once they got to know who I was. Only one account I sent a letter to, since that account was all done on paper (bills, invoices, etc)
      oooooooooo yyyyeah

The business is simple to start. Get a business license from the city hall. Then call a business insurance carrier (very common) and get general business liability with inland marine (your equipement coverage). Now your legit and should expect to get tax bills and business property assessments in the mail. Good for you for going to college for Landscape Design etc and stick to it. "Don't let the evil of the money trap me (you)" T.S.
