I recentley purchased the Groundkeeper Pro software from ADKAD. I have put some of our data in the software so I could play around with the backup feature on it. I found that when I go to back it up on a CD-RW in my Rewritable drive it will not let me. I went to the help list on the program and it says they recomend backing up to hard drive then use a burning program to copy to a disk because when you back up to a disk it turns the info to a read only file. I then found that when you want to restore from a disk you have to copy to hard drive and go to properties on the copy and un check the read only file so it can be put back in the software. My system is Windows ME. I found a program that came with the computer back in 2000 when I baught it that makes you RW drive like your hard drive you can send and receive your info to it. It also has to format your RW disk before they can be used. The program is directCD it down loads a UDF reader and prepares the disc. This does work so you can send your back-up straight to the RW and receive the info back. I am getting a new computer with XP Friday and am affraid that I will have trouble bring the info up. I have read that for these disc to be read I will need a udf reader on the new computer.
To break it down I am wanting to be able to send straight to a CD-RW disc and bring back from it. I plan on getting a Laptop for my truck and I want to be able to go back in forth from my desk top to laptop and keep info in sink. I dont want to keep it on the hard drive due to not knowing if it could crash and I lose everything.
Please tell me how everyone elese backs up there files?
