  • Backing up Groundskeeper files to CD-RW

I recentley purchased the Groundkeeper Pro software from ADKAD. I have put some of our data in the software so I could play around with the backup feature on it. I found that when I go to back it up on a CD-RW in my Rewritable drive it will not let me. I went to the help list on the program and it says they recomend backing up to hard drive then use a burning program to copy to a disk because when you back up to a disk it turns the info to a read only file. I then found that when you want to restore from a disk you have to copy to hard drive and go to properties on the copy and un check the read only file so it can be put back in the software. My system is Windows ME. I found a program that came with the computer back in 2000 when I baught it that makes you RW drive like your hard drive you can send and receive your info to it. It also has to format your RW disk before they can be used. The program is directCD it down loads a UDF reader and prepares the disc. This does work so you can send your back-up straight to the RW and receive the info back. I am getting a new computer with XP Friday and am affraid that I will have trouble bring the info up. I have read that for these disc to be read I will need a udf reader on the new computer.

To break it down I am wanting to be able to send straight to a CD-RW disc and bring back from it. I plan on getting a Laptop for my truck and I want to be able to go back in forth from my desk top to laptop and keep info in sink. I dont want to keep it on the hard drive due to not knowing if it could crash and I lose everything.

Please tell me how everyone elese backs up there files?
    Thank-You!

I have ME also with a cdrw. i have quickbooks and am unable to directly backup to cd when i close quickbooks and it prompts for a backup. instead, i have to use nero express (cd burning software) and manually add my quickbooks file by searching through the folders and adding it to my disc. it is a pain in the ____ but until i am willing or need to buy a backup hard drive to do whole system backups, it will have to do.

      I have Windows XP.
Same thing though, you have to save to hd, then drag to Easy cd Creator to back up to d drive.

I found out a very easy way to back up files and go from Desk to Laptop if you have a USB but most people do. I baught a 128MB Jumpdrive Secure it is very tiny and even has the loop for your keys. You can back up and recover straight from it. It is made by Lexar and cost $28 dollars at Wal-Mart for the 128Mb unit and they make up to a 1gig unit in this size I just did not need it to be that much room. I back up to the Harddrive (just encase I lose this device) and to this device. It will work with 98 and up platforms but you can not use the secure feature (this allows you to add a secure area on it that will require a pass code to access) unless you have 2000 or XP atleast with this brand. If you are using any of the others it will say devive not supported with this platform when you plug it in the USB but that is only the secure part you will be able to back up and recover you just wont be able to add a pass code just dont lose it. I can now easly keep my Laptop and Desk top insink with each other. This is also great if you do not have a CD drive on you laptop and want to install programs because you can download the program to this on you Desktop and upload to your Laptop.

I hope this helps anyone treying to find an easer way!!
