bad 1099

i got one that says the person paid me more than what it was. they know it and i know it. i know what i am gonna do but wonder what you guys would do ? we are talking about $1200. this was for sub work.

Well for starters, I make copies of all checks that I recieve. Wheither they are from customers or contractors that I do work for. If one sent me a 1099 for more than they paid me, I would 1. call them and show me proof of a check that cleared through my bank (as you see when you deposit a check, banks imprint it), 2. I would ask them to send a new correct 1099, 3. or pay me the money they are claiming they paid me. 4. Call the IRS and report the incident, and tell them you are claiming what they actually paid you.
