How to advertise?

OK. See here is what I am asking. I have been doing Lawns for about 3 or 4 seasons now. I am not quite sure about how to go about getting new customers. I know about handing out fliers, door knob hangers, business cards, etc. I've been told not to hand out fliers or business cards at, for instance, at Wal-Mart. They will not let you put fliers under windshield wipers of cars or nothing!! Nor can you at the mall. How am I supposed to get more customers if every place that I go will not permit me to advertise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A small classified ad with a bold black box around it is a goldmine waiting to be opened. DO NOT dismiss this for the lack of funds: it takes a small investment to make a pile of cash. Advertising experts will back this up. On Tuesday, run to or call your local paper for rates. Your best buy will usually be for 13 weeks if its a weekly. If its a daily paper, your best rates will be for ? quanity of days. Classifieds are cheap considering that flyers require your time to distribute. Time=$$. So let the classified ads work for you w/o a big expenditure of time.

Advertising should ALWAYS be considered as an investment toward future earnings and not just as an expense in today's $$.

Some may disagree but we have had great luck with it and one new client more than pays for your year running it. The start of each year we get tons of calls from the yellow pages.

We also do wal mart parking lots. It is done all the time in the summer by several other business in the area. If you have any questions just call your local Wal-mart and talk to the store manager.

how does the wal-mart advertising work? do you have any numbers as to its effectiveness?
