  • Subbing out fertilization work?

For those of you who have subbed out work b4, what sort of percentage do you usually pay for fertilization work? Are there a lot of headaches involved in subbing out work? I've never subbed b4 and was contemplating just referring work back & forth instead of subbing. Any pointers would be appreciated.

    thanks

If you sub out work make sure you get a certificate of insurance for GL and WC, otherwise you are liable for it. I guess if you don't have WC, then it doesn't matter if they have it. I carry it so therefore my subs have to have it or I have to hold 10% from them in case I'm ever audited

By the way, I just send subs to the jobsite with what I need to have done, they bill me, then I bill the customer my price, usually just a few dollars more.

I've subbed out apps for three years now and it's worked out great. My customers still get one bill from me. In fact I doubt many of them even know that my company isn't actually performing the work. I don't add anything on top of the sub's price. We refer work back and forth to each other and that system has worked well.

Last year alone I gave him 20 or so application customers and he gave me numerous referals. I got lucky when I found this guy though. He has 25 years of experience, turf management degree from VA Tech, and is just an all around good guy to work with.

The problem with tacking on a percentage to an application sub is that the prices are usually competative as it is. Adding on 20% to a $45 application may easily lose the job and the extra $10 isn't worth it for me to have another company working on one of my customer's lawns.
