  • QuickBooks 2005 Payroll......Now $199?

Each year I go out and buy the newest edition of Quick Books Pro and they give you a free payroll tax download with that edition for the current year.

SWEET, I just updated to QB's 2005 and it seems they screwed me! You now have to pay for the damn tax tables.

So I dropped $200 (after rebates) on a stupid upgrade (that isn't anything better than 2004). Now I have to pay at least another $199 to get the tax tables.

Typical big biz....find another way to milk their clients.

Had they told me that, I would have just kept the 2004 edition and spent $199 on the tax tables. Now it is costing me at least $400. What a crock.

UNLESS I am missing something. Has anyone bought QB 2005 and got their free tax tables like they have always given?

I'm just starting my own bidness and have decided to stear clear of them for that reason. After seeing some of the comments about them on amazon.com - it just seems like a long-term money scam.
I'd rather put stuff into excel or something and have an accountant help me.

Anybody have any thoughts on groundskeeper pro ..vs doing it the way I'm thinking of doing it (excel and accountant)?

Microsoft Money for Business does everything you need for $79. Groundskeeper Pro is excellent for billing and scheduling. I use both BTW.

Scott, how did you get it for free? It only gives me 3 things to chose from. Either the standard which is $199, or 2 other packages above that for more $$$.

I've never run into this before, it use to be just a simple free download before.

ok, I lied! I was just yanking your chain. I thought you knew me better than that. I'm too dumb to do payroll, I'm too dumb to do my own books that's why I have my wife doing them. I use a payroll service and pay out the nose for quality PT help since I'm still a PT'er myself. At one time I was gonna attempt to do my own payroll but I needed w/c and nobody if FL was writing if you didn't have 4 FT'ers and X amount of payroll per month. How's a small bizness supposed to get going?

I was useing Excel and then I gave all of my info to my CPA and he does my taxes.

For accounts info I used Outlook so I could sync up with my PALM. Also it has a Task area and a Calender that I use to make my route Schedule for each day. When I get in at the end of the day I mark off what has been done. If something has been missed it is rescheduled for the next day

Since my former job was as a PC Tech I Know a thing or 2 about Programs.

I Wrote me a little Access Database to enter Accounts. It keeps track of time spent at a job and payment info.
I have a friend that is working on a program that will allow me to insert Data on the PDA After each Job and at the end of the day it will sync up with my PC when I get back to the office.

I figured out the QB's thing. They ask you for credit card info, as if you are about to purchase. But then if you enter all your info, but skip the credit card info and go to the next page, they say "You get one free tax table download".

I think that is a bit shady and I'm sure it gets virtually everyone to enter their card number and buy the full thing.

I have been using Money Small Business for 3 yrs now. Every year I upgrade (around $69 after rebate). Money has a free 1 yr payroll service. All you do is enter payroll amount, amount per hour, and the service does everything else including sending checks. I think it even direct deposits if you want.
