Hey Everyone,
What do you think of offering a free cut to every returning customer who gives you a season-long referral. We don't use contracts, but I feel confident enough in our work and prices that once the people they refer us to get a taste of us for a few weeks, they will stick with us the whole season. Also, I have established at least some level of personal relationship with all my clients, usually a pretty solid one, and they would feel pressured to come through all the way with legit referrals if I was giving them free cuts, so I don't think I'd be getting any customers trying to rip me off with half-ass referrals that last only a couple weeks. I wanted to offer this only through direct mailings to customers from last season; I've already done one mailing mid-winter just telling them we'd be back. That way it seems like an "insiders deal" and that I want to help out my long-time customers (and want them to help me out to). I may even send another letter out about it in mid or late summer to customers who have been with us from April till then. I just feel like offering a tangible incentive to talk up our company and spread the word about us might really make the difference in getting referrals. My other idea was to knock off the price a little with each referral, but that could get complicated and hurt business. Our current customers know the deal, we offer great work at a low price, and I don't think they'd feel guilty or anything trying to get their friends and neighbors on board. Any thoughts/past experiences on this?
