Just started. Own a 28" Snapper Hi-Vac w/bagger and Lift blade attachments for "sweeping" purposes/leaf removal. Have 3 blades for that Snapper, 2 of them w/lifts. 21" Troy Bilt self propelled reliable but howeowner quality 6.5 B/S w/2 mulching blades (1 spare) and bagger, Shindaiwa trimmer, I.D.C. brush-cutter/trimmer, Homelite light duty hedge trimmers, Homelite Bandit (P.O.S.!) handheld blower, Craftsman lawn vac (mower looking thing that has nozzle and hose vacs, small chipper shredder chute) Stihl pole saw (small one w/out telescoping shaft), Stihl tiller for light tilling, flower box maintenance) and plenty of hand tools/wheelbarrows, etc. I owned all this before I decided to start doing lawn care. Lawn Care is all I like to do besides Bass Fishing so I decided to pursue a small business in addition to fishing.
I will ONLY be doing mowing, trimming (weed-eating, shrub/hedge and brush), and a bit of leaf removal. NO sprinklers, landscaping, fertilizing, etc. (to avoid sales tax#.) I have an EIN and State w/holding # just in case I hire someone eventually. City license and insurance/bond in place.
I currently have 8 mobile homes in a HUGE mobile home park and will have more as the word spreads about someone who will do these mini-lawns. (Started w/1 and got mauled before I un-trailered the Snapper! seems nobody will bother w/mobiles!) I will be doing homes too.
My questions are; What equipment do I need to consider? Would this Quick 36 I see all over this board be too big for these mini applications? (some of these yards are PACKED w/ornaments! WOW!)Anyone use Echo equipment? Love my Shindaiwa but hear Echo is as good or better and man what a price difference! I need a bigger hedge trimmer, looking at an Echo w/24" bar. Whaddya all think? I need better blowers, maybe a vac too? Backpack or are they too cumbersome for small apps? Gonna buy small self propelled mower too, SOON! Toro Pro-Line really that good? Any help is appreciated.
Also, I'm looking to Commercial mowing. Am I kidding myself when I think I can find some businesses that won't want landscaping/fertilizing/sprinklers? 'Cause I wont even consider that now, NO BUDGET!

      Hi RatherbeBassin',

Also, I'm looking to Commercial mowing. Am I kidding myself when I think I can find some businesses that won't want landscaping/fertilizing/sprinklers? 'Cause I wont even consider that now, NO BUDGET!
I am sure you can find them, residential might be easier to do now though. Do you know any business owners? Ask around and see if they need a bid for their lawns. Ask them if they know any other business owners as well that you could contact.

        Yep, I know some owners!

Know a bunch of business owners and know I could get their accounts but I also know I'm not set up to do it right or efficiently. Worried about businesses wanting more than I am willing to offer. (Or able to right now!) Needing commercial walk behind and then ztr. I guess my real question is how many residentials = commercial mower? Not wanting to overwhelm myself w/residentials cause of demanding clients (MUST bag, MUST vac, not blow, MUST park over there as we don't want your $40,000 rig in our drive, etc. )
A lot of these ARE worth it but some never seem to be happy regardless of the hoops I miraculously put my HUGE self through!
Not really complaining, just a real learning experience!
