  • Playing Owner and Worker

    Hey Everyone,

In the early stages when you guys were both the owner and sole worker for your company, you charged the same labor rates right? I mean I see labor rates of 45 or 50/hr and that's not all that high when you consider the worker is going out there and getting paid, cost of equipment, transportation, all that stuff, and then what's left goes into the owner's pocket who sits in the office. We charge 30-35/hr depending on customer loyalty, seniority with us, etc. Our expenses are extremely low, would you feel unethical as a college-age one-man show charging 35/hour for a spring cleanup, you know just mowing, raking, hedging bushes, picking up sticks etc? Should I never under any circumstances reveal how I put my bid together? Thank you.

my contracts read $30.00 per man hr, no matter how many guys are working on the project.

The customer will determine price for you. If you are charging too much they will do it themselves. Don't cut your prices for them but be open and aware as to their response.

No ... and as I got more "bodies" working for me ... I could charge less, make more ... and work less ... mass production works for everybody!
