  • Hiring Employees!!!

We are looking to hire some new employees this season, adding on a maintenance crew, and another Landscape install crew.

So I placed an ad in the local help wanted, got lots of calls. Scheduled
5 people for interviews..NOT ONE OF THEM SHOWED UP!!!! Didn't even call to say they were not coming.

Any suggestions on where to find decent help these days!

Try your local community college.....most community colleges have Horticulture Programs....you will get someone interested in the field of Lawn Care plus they will be dying to get some experience....they will show up for the interview. This way you will at least get some people with some experience......both textbook smarts and hands-on as all of the programs (at least in my area) require students to do hands-on work at the colleges.

They went to the unemployment office before they went to you and found out that they didn't really have to work at all... just mooch off everyone else.

                Thanks for all the support

I have another 2 coming in today for interviews, we will see if they show up!
We have been in business for 8 years, and every year it gets harder and harder to find people with even 1/2 a brain to work.

We treat our employees very well, they are all paid well, but if you are not going to have any pride in your work, they I don't want you. That's what we had last year, nobody cares about the quality of the work they do. Our company was founded on providing a quality service, and if the job doesn't look good, then I don't look good. My crew forman who was with us from the beginning, left last year to move to Texas for his wife's job. I am feeling the pain right now.

And as for the college kids, I find that they are the worst. Some times they show up for work, but if they have been out all weekend partying they are pretty useless. If they show up at all.

We have about 2 more weeks here before the grass season starts, but I have
about 15 or so clean-ups already scheduled.

I'll just have to work the one crew harder and faster!

Job applicants are getting smarter ... they don't work for the same wages paid 20 years ago ... that's why you hire hispanics ...
