GRANTS for new businesses?

Ok, so I have heard that the government allocates Small Business Grants to new start-up businesses to help them get going. I have also heard that a great portion of these grants goes out to disadvantaged people or certain groups such as minorities and women. Unfortunately for me, I am a white middle-class male. However, I am only 20 years old and in the process of forming my landscaping business in as an S corporation in New Jersey. I’m also a full time college student, however I am not making my own tuition payments (my parents are covering what academic scholarship hasn’t covered), so I am claimed as a dependent. Are there any grants that I might be applicable to receive? Perhaps because I am younger than most business owners, and don’t quite have the start-up funds they do (my family does not contribute a penny to my business). Are there any funds the government hands out that don’t require me to be a minority, woman, or from low income? Anything? Anything at all? I’d appreciate any information I could get on this topic.

I hope you have better luck obtaining a grant in the USA then we do up here in Canada!Unless you're part of a minority or aboriginal you have no chance of government assistance of any sort! Good luck to you, hope it works out for you!

Grants "happen" but it's like two ships passing in the night ... nevertheless if you can find a "beneficial angle" ... a what's in it for me for the grantor ... it's possible.

Hey man,

I'm 21 and I looked into finding a grant funded by the state I live in... Washington... It turns out Washington state doesnt give small business gratns. If your state does give grants you can probably find something out online. I think you have to apply before the 1st of the year to be eligible. So this years out but you could find your self in a better working situation next year... good luck maybe New Jersey has a cash to give out?
