A tracking device can also be a handy tool to find stolen items. A couple years ago I read a post on another forum where the guy hooked up tracking devices to his mowers. Just so happens that his trailer was stolen one night. He called the company he bought the devices from and they had the police dispatched to the location of his equipment. If memory serves me right, the police arrived at the address just in time to find the theives setting everything out along a busy street w/ FOR SALE signs on them.

The tracking devices are a good idea to also monitor employees. I was a driver for UPS and they watch every move you make. You'll find that most medium to large sized companies are constantly tracking their employees. Lost time prevention and management is worth it's weight in gold.

      Hi dwyman,

I wonder if you installed a "black box" with some sort of gps looking antenna and then told your crews it was a gps tracker. Even if it wasn't, maybe that would be good enough

There was an article in an electrical contractor trade mag recently about the Nextel system... saving gas, etc (watching routes taken) more than made up for the cost of the system.

Kind of like the fake cameras in stores. Your not positive they're fake, but you still think someone may be watching you.

I have never worked for a boss, or had a boss that would let me "screw off" and get paid for it. If I let my guys screw off then that takes money out of my pocket. Might as well open up my wallet everyday and give them all the cash I have plus their wage for a day. I dont believe in wasting money on time not worked.
