  • Paid Vacation for Employees

Just curious, those of you with employees, how do you handle employee's pay for vacations. One year of employment= 1 week paid vacation? Do you all go beyond that for employees that have been with you longer? I seem to feel that 1 week paid vacation is fair even if someone has been there longer, am I being cheap?

I have one employee that works 5 days a week 9am-1pm from May 1st until September 1st.. Time off in that period is 7 days vacation, 10 sick days.. For you, base it on whether they are full or part time, working weekends, holidays, overtime, yr round or summer or winter only.. I would say about 1 week of vacation for every 4 months of work. If they work overtime and weekends and holidays, give um 2.

10 sick days? Not being mean, but I have never heard of any company, in any industry offering 10 sick days . Or more sick days than vacation days especially. I'm kind of confused maybe. So you have a guy that works part time and only for about 4 months and you give him basically 17 paid days off?? No offense, but if he is only working the hours you gave (4hrs per day), and you gave hime 17 days off paid. That's 34 of his working days??!! I must be missing something here.

For us, After one year, they get 1 week paid vacation. The guys that have been with me for over 4 years get 2 weeks. Many industries offer 3-4 sick days. I offer up 3 to my yearly guys and 2 for the seasonal.

Normal paid holidays for any industry.

What I do is kinda helpful. I accrue a certain number of hours to their vacation each paycheck. Like 4 hours for every 2 week paycheck. So, they cannot take a week off in Spring!! Cause they won't have that much vacation time accrued yet. That works well.
