  • Pine Straw Installation Pricing!

In our area pine straw runs $2.60 to $4.00 a bale. Can anyone give me some figures on pricing a job, around flower beds or shrubs.

    Hello Jack:

It Depends a Lot on the Quality of Straw?

Figure around 8' to 10' Square Coverage per Bale, 10' Square is Pushing it on Short Needle Straw & if it's Very Dry. Some Bales are Bigger than others? Machine Baled Verses Hand Baled!

Allways Look Good at the Straw, If Buying Very Many Bales, Dig a Couple Bales Deep & Ram Your Hand down into the Center of it & if Ya Don't Snatch it out Screaming Obscenities you Know there's No Stickers or Sticks in it. I've Been Burned a Couple of Times! Twice! I've Bought Straw By the 1,000 Bales Before, So be Carefull. Those Bailers Know all the Tricks of the Trade.

When I was Buying it, I was Paying $2.00 to $2.25 ea. Per Hundred Bales & It was Good Quality Plus Decent Bales. I Was Selling it Installed for $4.50 to $5.00 a Bale Installed. If One Time Customer they Buy at Least 30 Bales. I Tried to Double My Money & a Little Extra if I Could. Allways Figure about 10% Extra, Because You Might decide to Throw a Few Off Yo Truck!

Allways Quote a Installed Price, Ask them Upfront if They Want it Real Thick or Just Want to Barely Cover the Old Straw. You can Figure it From There? []

Roll it a Little Near the Defined Edges But Not Touching, Keep it Good & Fluffy. If the Edging isn't Bad, Edge it Before you Straw it. Take Blower Blow off the Bushes, Window Sills, Concrete Surfaces. Then after all is Done, Lightly Wash it Off With Water Hose, Removing the Dirt & Dust? Did I Say Lightly? Washing it Off Mkes all the Difference in the World!

Don't Buy Extra in Hopes of Selling it Later. Try to Get as Close as you Can When Having to Unload, Lots of Trouble Moving Far & Very Messy! Hold out for the Good Stuff T00!

I used to Aggervate My Customers to Death about it, Most Would Let Me Do their Property at Least Once to Twice a Year. Just Before Halloween & Again Before Easter, Easter was The Best time of Year for Me Strawing? Those Times of the Year Was A little Slow for Me, So I Pushed Pine Strawing Beds & Big Clean Ups! Ca Ching$$$$$... We Even Did Small Install Jobs & Pressure Washing!

Though I have heard of people using pine straw as mulch, I have never used it or even seen it used around here. I wonder why? I do use it on newly seeded or overseeded lawns, though. Ive even heard of people using pine needles but have never seen it done around here.

          Jack -

Sorry I did't get back to your e-mail........

I couldn't help you anyway though, so I guess its no biggie....I'm from the NorthEast and I'm working in a very similar climate now. Never used Pine Straw or Pine Needles. Bark Mulch was our thing.

          Sorry!

An average bale of pinestraw should cover approx. 45 sq ft. Admin, I think your figures would at most provide minimal touch up to existing straw. I've heard rates from $5.50 to 9.00/bale installed in my area.

The only thing I can saw about Pine Straaa, is that it comes in bales![8D]
