  • Winter Business?

Hey everyone, just trying to find out what everyone does when the grass has stopped growing. Down here in the deep south the trees really don't lose thier leave untill December then quickly grow back in March. I may find a use for that grass catcher yet. Any suggestions on leave gathering?

How about you guys in the North? Can you attach snow blowers to your mowers? Instead of seeds or fertilizer in your spreader do you put salt in it? Put snow plows on your trucks? Heat the air in your leaf blowers to de-ice?

I was thinking of taking all the branches I cut from peoples homes in the summer and selling it back to them for fire wood.

On a serious note, I believe winter is the best time to transplant trees and such. Any one in that business?

If you do a lot of tree cutting, save the good stuff for bbq's, we got one place in town that only uses pecan wood.

never put pecan wood in my fireplace, but I've smoked with it and it does give whatever you're smoking a great taste. I was just suggesting that certain woods can be turned around for a quick profit. Kill two birds with one stone. Charge for the tree removal and then turn it around and sell the wood.

              Hello Evereybody:

Stupid Me, Had Someone Give me about 3 Truck Loads of Pecan Wood. They even Brought it over & Unloaded it.

I Filled up My Fireplace all the way with it. Had a good Blaze Going Too!

I Warmed up to it, Then Decided to get me a Cup of Coffee.

It was in a Fire Place Insert & I didn't Close the Doors because it was Really Blazing, Well about 30 or So Minutes Later...

It Started Popping & Blowing out Hot Coals, some almost as Big as Tennis Balls. LOL they Were going Everywhere, By the Time I got there. The Carpet Got Burned in a Couple of Places, A Little Burn on the Couch, Luckily it Rolled off & Burned the Floor. []

I Grabbed One Piece that Just Hit the Floor, Burned my Hand & Then Finally got the Doors CLosed, It Seemed Like it Popped for Hours?

Later I Brought Home a Bunch of Debris from a Clean Up & Burned the Rest of the 3 Truck Loads of Wood Outside & ...

I Never have Used Pecan again & I Never Have to this Day Walk off with the Doors of the Fireplace Opened Again? That Was about 15 years ago?

Maybe you might want to consider parking lot striping, curb painting. If you're already mowing a commercial account and they've got parking, it's a possibility. Don't ask me if it's successful, I'm just brainstorming. Here we cut year round.

Heating the air in the leaf blower sounds like fun.. I think you should take a trip up north to see our winters! Sometimes we get sheets of ice up to 1/2" thick. I can see myself out in -10 degree blizzard using warm air to melt it off my driveway so it can freeze again on the way down the driveway! I think on a 50'x25' driveway, you would be looking at about 10 hours of blowing just to go over it the first time!... Up here, salt and sand mix in hoppers in the bed of the trucks and plows on the trucks. Some use front end loaders for big jobs...
We sell a lot of wood to!!

Have fun in the sun! Its already down to 60's during the day up here..[]
