try bulk mail for your flyer's... I once had a problem with one home owner that decided to be a pain in the neck and called the post office. When I had put the flyer in the mail box... I heard some one from the house yell out "that's Illeagle!" Sure enough, the next day I got a call from the post office about the "bulk mail permit that I DIDN'T have". I think its $150 for the permit, and another $150 if yoiu havn't had one before, total $300. When you renew, its another $150. The permit is good for one year. Call your local post office for more info. What you have to do after you have your flyers printed up, sort them by what neighborhoods you want them to go to and then drop them off. You could also go door to door. (cheaper, time consuming) But this way you may actually get to meet potential customers. I have had great responce from my flyers. I start my flyer with my company name/Logo. Then below that somthing catchy like "It's that time of year again! The raking... The Bagging... and Hauling away your leaves! Give yourself a break!" This line I use in the fall to target customers for fall cleanup's. Then I go on to list the other services I offer. And finally, contact info Call Bill @ ###-###-#### and list my web page and e-mail address. This time of year, I get my flyers printed on orange or golden rod colored paper and in the spring/summer I get them printed on a light green paper. Around here there are TONS of home owners that are willing to hire somebody to do their work for them. Most of them are your regular "joe home owner" types that don't have the time to do the work themselves. From my experience, flyers are a very good way to get going... next thing you know... you'll be doing a job for one person and their neighbor see's you and wants to hire you... work of mouth is great!

      Good luck!
      Bill

I have had the largest amoutnof success myself form flyers. I also use a light green paper and use incentives on them to get calls. One example is to offer discounts for multiple customers. If you get say three or four neighbors to go in on it, you can cut them a deal. Having clients that are neighbors is very beneficial as well. It will save you a ton of time that would otherwise be wasted traveling. You may also want to offer a free cut for those who sign a one year contract or just agree to let you do it for the year on a constant basis. Make sure they understand up front though that it is only free upon them agreeing to let you service the lawn constantly. Otherwise they can pay for the cut and try someone else out. My advice is to pick 5 or 6 neighborhoods that are really close together that you find as profitable lawns (ones you can service in a reasonable amount of time to make a good profit) and hit them with flyers really hard. I would distribute flyers there every week for 7 strait weeks. I studied advertising in college and one rule of advertising is tha tit takes 7 times of seeing your company name on the flyer before it sticks in their head and they call you. 7 may seem a bit extreme to you, but shoot for seven and I bet before you get to five distributions you have anough clients to keep you busy. One way to avoid the mailbox problem is to stick the flyer on door handles. It'smore time-consuming, but not illegal.

          Flyers:

Put them in newspaper boxes. If no newspaper box, use expensive door hangers or tie a rubber band around the flyer and tie it around the door handle. The problem I have had in the past with newspaper boxes, is some homeowners don't take the stuff out of the boxes...

Door to door always works well too!

          Good luck!

Flyers, flyers, flyers! It's the least expensive and most productive source of advertising if you want to keep your costs down, and who doesn't! Tip: Mention on your flyer something to the effect, "Are you unhappy with your current lawn service, then give us a call!" Reason: most people are! It worked extremely well for me and people would repeatedly tell me "I saw on your flyer 'if your unhappy with your lawn service' and yes I am, so I called you!'" Keep your words on the flyer to a minimum, and make sure its neat and professional!

Enviroscape, I would Say get an ad in the Phonebook it is cheap and a great wat to advertise! here it cost us $14.50 a month for bold print under 3 topics in the yellow pages. The most expensive part about that is you hane to have a busines line of witch is a little more expensive. We pay $ 65 a month for the phone and ad we are with Verizon for the phone service and yellow pages. Another way is Business cards put out everywere even next to urnals in restrooms you would not belive how well this works. You can get the little plastic holders for $.10 for the cards. If you have anymore questions that ask away, all here would be more then happy to try and answer for.
                you!

You want lots of customers with flyers & you want to stay close to home? You want to eliminate drive time? You want a concentrated customer base.

                    Lowball.

Blanket the area you want to cut in with flyers promoting a lower than average price, promising reliable quality service.

Zack, sorry to disagree with you but lowballing is not the way to go. If your work is quality, then charge what it is worth. It's lowballers who do scrub work and steal contracts from professionals and then end up losing the client in the end anyways b/c of the crappy job they do. Every year a new crop of lowballers come out and steal contracts, then you don't see them anymore. No offense Zack, but I've read plenty of posts from you on this forum, and you remind me of another guy with a mower and a pickup truck who makes a littel money every year from a new client base every year. Enviroscape, if you want to be serious with this, promise quality work and charge what it is worth, but don't undercut other companies just to temporarily gain a client. As you can see here, the flyer method is the most popular, since it is the cheapest and best way to keep clients centralized. Best of luck!

I have to agree with the rest. Fliers are the least expensive and in most cases give you the best reurn for your money.

You have to be careful with fliers. Putting them in mail boxes is illegal. Placing fliers in a paper box put out by the newspaper company has legal liabilities attached also. They belong to the newspaper company.

Also don't forget the posibility of putting magnetic signs on your vehicle. Keep them simple and easily readable. I have simple signs on my truck and they have paid for themselves over and over again. Best $65 I spent in advertising.

I also agree with AAffordable on the Yellow pages. I haven't addvertised this way yet because it is a little pricy for me right now. I do have plans for this in the future. It seems to be less expensive than advertising in the newspaper and I feel you have better coverage with the Yellow pages than with the newspaper. Seem like you will get a better clientel also.

Try flyers in gas stations, laundry mats and business like that along with newspaper ads, and in the spring I'm going to try the door to door thing for the first time.

Door to door flyers work well, door-knob hangers even better but they are expensive.

I used a flyer delivery service to drop my flyers, I even cut a deal with the companies owner to do their property free of charge as a trade off. I found using visuals like pictures of services does a great job of getting calls.
                              Thanks
