hi Im new to the business after many years in the tree industry (owner/climber). I still have a hand in climbing but have decided to take my life long passion of landscaping and work it for proffit. I picked up a new simplicity mower and a nice trailer. Now to build a customer base!! I love word of mouth it has always been my sole means of spreading my reputation. Of course I know this must appply to this industry as any other,,,I suppose Im looking for advice to what I find is a new industry for me..I have a great coustomer base for the tree side of life all very high end but close friend does thier lawns no way would step on that friendship so in a sense I'm starting new...any advice out there for a newbie?[}]

The only advice I can give you is start advertising. Start up just like you did with tree work, or possibly get some of your tree customers to take up mowing contracts.. See if you can get your present customers to give word of mouth to other people that may be interested in mowing. It sounds like you have a good knowledge of how to run a business... If you were a good success in tree work, use those same principles that got you work in trees, to get the same work in mowing...

    Good luck!

What Steve said ... advertise using several different methods, within a year or two you'll have all the work you can handle. However, I'd continue to advertise the tree work (alongside) the lawn care and if tree work is not what you want to do anymore, find someone to sub it to.
