That sounds about right in most neighborhoods here. Its amazing how these prices have been this way for 15 years or more! Maybe we should collectively agree to raise our prices!!!

      alcpi,

I think prices have stayed the same over the last 15 years because there are more lawn maintenance companies, which means more competition to beat prices. My mom works at an office building which paid $60 for mow/trim/blow this year, they paid $70 for the same last year.. Its all about who will give the best results at the best prices.. PERIOD........

The business in Central Florida is very competative. This past summer I saw offers in the newspaper and local publications offering the basic service for as little as $15 per service.Good luck!

You know that is horrible the way that matinence crews underbid there competitors by so much just to get the job its just hurting the trade they should bid higher but offer more service or better quality

Quality you have a good point and that may be one of the reasons. This industry doesn't require any special type of educational background, experience, and is relatively untouched by the government hence the popularity. I've been saying for years that any day Uncle Sam is going to open his eyes and see $$$ from the lawncare industry and license us up the you know what! Fees, taxes(above what we pay), taxes on taxes, permits, etc. Unfortunate for our pockets, but the competition would drastically be reduced.

I went around the neighborhood on Saturday and knocked on doors to get some more leaf cleanup jobs. Almost everyone said no to my "extremly high" prices. I come through on my way back home, and that damn kid that underbid me on the cemetery is out with his lil trashed Murrary tractor and a ripped up lawn sweeper doing leaf cleanups for $5 that I gave quotes for $70.. I HATE THAT KID..

                  Hello Steve:

Try to cut the kid some slack, he's trying to make a Buck or maybe 2 also.

Maybe you should give him a job or LOL try to explain to him about gross - net profit & margins. Actual operating cost of doing business & so forth, but please don't confuse him? []

We had this guy in our area about 50 years old, he was always barefooted (50 degress he was barefooted), wore a hard hat (Got hit in the head by a pinecone) & he trimmed hedges with a Machette...

No Lie, we called him the Machette man. He would work from what ever time you picked him up till you took him home for $20 & Lunch.

He always had work, it didn't look good when he was finished, but he always had work? I used to give him old wore out tools all the time!

Hey, any of you heard or remember Mr. Rockefeller many of many years ago? He ran Standard Oil Company...ranked like a peon company when he first started out, but if u've listened in history class he created a monopoly..(this wasn't gov. regulated in the late 1800's). How he did it was..he began selling his oil for only what it cost him to sell it! what happened? everybody bought oil from him and he killed or scared off the rest of the competition! pretty cruel guy I'd say... but if any of the lowballers out there had the means to do that, they could practically run us competitive guys out of business...thank God that can't happen in the contracting biz. However, as I think Phil Nillson would explain in one of his books, if you have the fastest, best state of the art means of completing a job, your expenses decrease drastically since labor is the most costly expense you have. so in theory you could lower your prices w/o lowering profits that way. just a thought! hehe kinda off the subject...have a good one!
