Advertizing is pretty expensive. I've gone to gated communities and asked about advertizing in HMA newsletters (I'm going after high end residential jobs) It isnt cheap but is a professional approach to centralizing my work in areas that are within decent range of my office. I also have got many referrals from my church community members. I too will be new going at it this year as my own business. Everybody seems to be talking about getting going in Spring but dont forget about winter pruning (crepe myrtles, etc.)!!!

Great thread! 2003 here I come. I know it will be difficult to firmly position myself in the business but I strongly feel If I set reasonable goals and plan for the future of the company it will be a good choice. I would like to thank everyone here on the forum for providing great information and helping us newbies. I have a lot to learn but with the great people here willing to share ideas and their past experience It has given me the confidence to go full throttle into the biz. I hope to make new friends and look foward to communicating with others and sharing information.

Best of luck to us all!!!!

I just started part-time in Sep. 2002. I'll be able to go fulltime in March. I would like to get a few commercial accounts and a few homeowner's associations in gated communities. Keep this thread going...

Ken2, maybe shrink your logo a little bit so it doesn't take up so much real estate in my browser.

Is anyone else here being as conservative as i am on their sales projections? I am forecasting 10-15 residential accounts in year 1. I realize our markets are different so conservative to you might be 20-30 customers but what im really trying to ask is if anyone here "playing it safe" so to speak on their projections?

JLAND, im afraid im stuck with this size logo for now, I have a friend hosting it for me and i have sent so many to him to reload that i dont want to ask him again. Should be getting my website up and running soon though so it will be reduced soon.....

BTW: Im not sure if this is a good idea but im going to put my home number up here, if anyone has any questions and doesnt mind getting their brain picked in return give me a call.

Ken, I am "playing it safe" on my projections as well. I will probably not be full time in March but hope to step it up in advertising and such so hopefully in May or June I can at least expand from my big ONE man operation. Now if I need help, my dad is always available, but 99% of the time, just me. I have a goal of $1500 bring home by end of May. That is of course not including what I am taking out for taxes(just in case), advertising, & equip growth. So, if I am to that point by May, I may go full time depending on if I have the potential clientel. So I figure 15 or so residential regs. a few on per job basis, and 2-4 Commercial, will get me to my goal as a part time guy.
