cold calling sucks. It's like being a telemarketer but only in person. My wife is in sales and can't stand cold calling because people just don't want to hear another sales pitch. Best thing to do is to just mail out your flyers, advertise in the phone book, buy a bench seat at a bus stop, advertise in all the papers, send out smoke signals, basically flood the area with your company name. If they're interested they call.

      Forget cold calling.

Follow other LCO's around & target their customers with flyers promising lower prices. Good percentage will call & you know they already need a service.

Advertise right and the work will come to you. I haven't had good experience with cold calling, I usually get the run-around or voice mail.

No kiddin, but lawnscalper, Zack is the guy who charges $18 per lawn so I wouldn't be so surprised to find out he undercuts his comp. Thats why it's harder now a days to get going in this biz, because of guys like him. I think scaper will agree with me. Not to drag him into this.

I couldn't do cold calling. Get your biz name and phone # on your truck now. Let people see it. Pass out card every opportunity. Contact your local paper to see about advertising. Direct mailer may be an option also. Basically, start now getting your name familiar to people.

I couldn't agree with Cole more. Lowballers are the people that do nothing but hurt this industry. I've said it before and I will say it again.....if you provide quality landscaping serives and reasonable (not super low) prices, you don't need to undercut the competition and you will look a lot more professional. Hey Zack, if you want to use that method (which I am sure you do, that's your choice, but don't try and preach it on this forum. You won't get positive feedback here.

                    Right on Cole,

Lowballers screw everybody over. Why would you want to work for so little? My theory is charge more, work less. If you charge more, you probably wont have as many customers, but you will make up for it in the high $$$$ customers. Personally I would rather be the Neiman Marcus of the lawn business than the K-Mart!

I love those scrubs that try to undercut prices! What they fail to realize is that they think they have all this money coming in and there work usually ain't worth a****as far as quality and when they have to raise prices because of higher business costs than they are usually dropped due to no quality in there work. or they undercut you then a month later that customer is calling you back because the company either is not dependable or does a bad job so then i can squeeze another $5-$10 out of the customer. I have lost 3 customers to being undercut in price only to have them call me back within a month and a half. then the guy that undercuts everyone usually is not in business very long which means more work i have a chance of picking up. So in one way you got to love scrubs like ZACK!!!
