  • Phone numbers...

I've always receive about 2-3 wrong number calls a day because my phone number is 539-3322 and the local hospitals number is 776-3322. Now Old Chicago came to town and their number is 537-3322. I've already received 2-3 calls for them.

I like my number, but this is starting to drive me insane.

I love picking up the phone saying, 'Hello, Landscape Solutions' and waiting for their reaction. I guess if anything else it's cheap advertising.

I say, change the number. How many of your customers call them by mistake? Some people are out of their comfort zone calling someone they don't know for the first time. What if they try to call you and get treated badly by someone else and think it's you. Talking to you on the phone should be part of the good services you provide. Here's an old Itallian proverb. If good service doesn't show up on the phone, it won't show up at their home.

Have you asked where they are getting the number? Maybe there is a misprint somewhere in advertising or on the net?
No disrespect meant Littleriver, but why do you equate someone dialing a wrong number with poor service on on the part of the person receiving the misdialed call. Maybe I am misunderstanding your statement.

I assume they just dial the wrong prefix on the number. 776, 539, and 537 are the old standards around here. I can see why some people would change them around mentally...esp when someone tells someone who tells someone the number (such as in the hospital scenerio). More than anything the calls are an inconvience, but they've actually decreased over time. At one point I'd get 4-5 a day. Now-a-days I might get one per every couple days. (I know I said 2-3/day earlier...that was a bit drastic...)

I can't just change my number because it currently is listed in my yellow page ads. What I might just do is run two lines into my apartment, one being 539-3322 and then just suck it up and have a business line. Once this years yellow page ads end, I could just drop the 3322 line.

I doubt people trying to call me would get bad service if they happened to call the hospital, nor do I think many people trying to calling me would end up calling the hospital.

Wait till your area outgrows the phone switches and they start adding more area codes like they did hear -a few misdialed misdialed calls X10. It tapered off too as people got used to it. Sucks having to dial 11 numbers so much of the time.

                Hi MASTERMOWER,

This same situation has happened to us twice that I can remember. One was a hospital just like your situation, the other was for a Southern California radio request line. We got calls all day long about what songs they wanted played. This went on for a few month for each but then tappered off.

Both times it was due to an advertisement with the wrong number which was eventually corrected.

Hey look on the bright side, at least you aren't taking song requests all day!
