  • How to structure my buisness??????

I have been mowing for about three years now, but have never set myself up as a buisness. By now, I am doing about 60 weekley yards, and bringing in a gross of about 35,000 a year. I was just wondering if i should set up as a sole proprieter or an LLC, i know the pros and cons, but still don't know which way to go. I am also trying to figure out if there is any way to avoid paying sales tax. Should i set a buisness up out of state, or is that a huge pain in the butt? I live in Texas. Any input would be greatly appreciated, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! .
Oh yea, do yall think Taylor Turf Care is a good name?

go to the Texas website and find out exactly what your state requires for licensing. Oh and search some places to see if someone has that name. If not then file your business name with your state. Theres probably something about it online like a form to fill out Get your EIN number from the fed you can get your EIN number online Get your service vendors license if Texas requires them that way you get supplies cheaper. Oh after you get your business license get insured right away just in case something bad happens you wont loose your business. As for sole proprietorship or LLC do what you want to do sole proprietership is best to start out with and thats where I'm at. But either way research your prospective name and file for everything as soon as you can. oh and thats a cool name Good luck man

      Hi Andy Taylor,

I like the name Taylor Turf Care.

I am also trying to figure out if there is any way to avoid paying sales tax.
Why is this such a concern? For the services or products that need to be taxed, simply show it in your invoices.

Texas Tech is in lubbock, so there is a ton of competion, and not a whole lot of people that are legit, so if i charged sales tax, i would either have to absorb it or lose customers because of the raise in price. They could get someone else to do it without charging sales tax. This is a highly competitive market.

Sales tax? Do you mean for the products that you buy to use on your customers property? we just absorb that into the price of the monthly maintenance.

As for the type of business, for the first 7 or so years we were a sole prop. Then as our business grew it made more sense tax wise to incorporate. The best thing to do is discuss that with an accountant.

Why would you set up the business as being out of state?
