help I have been trying to get my business off the ground for three months and it's going nowhere. I delivered doorhanger flyers. Did personal calls and still have the same three customers I started with. I'm not over priced or under priced, but all people tell me is they will think about it. I have good equipment and I do excellent work but customers just won't swich to my service. What can i do.

be patient Rome was not built in a day. keep pushing it will come. the end of the year seems to be a hard time to get people to switch. things will pick up in the spring.we never truly grow as a person or acomplish anything until we step out of our comfort zone.

right now is not the best time to advertise. Wait till mid Feb to advertise. Try a phonebook ad or an ad in the newspaper. Also if people tell you they will think about it, give them a week and give them a call back and tell them that you were wondering if they have found someone for lawn maintenence yet. If you don't like to call, send them a postcard thanking them for allowing you to submit a proposal. This usually gets the people to make their mind up one way or another.“veni, vidi, vici.â€Â

you're on the right track Charlie. . .Don't give up. . .Soon you'll have more work than you can shake a stick at. . .Right now is way too early to get a committment from residentials. Wait until the grass starts growing. If they say 'I'll think about it' in March or even in April, they're not gonna think about it too long when they see their grass getting taller. . .They'll call you. . .Just be patient and let the fruits of your labor sprout. . .

Charlie...Like everyone else has said, it is too early right now to advertise for the spring. Plus you've only been in the business for three months. It's hard to acquire customers in the fall and winter. Right now focus on telling as many people as possible that you're in the the lawn servicing business. People talk all the time. The next time someone says..."Hey Charlie, how's it going?" You say "Things are going great!...And by the way, I just started a lawn servicing business." The main thing is don't get frustrated and give up. Hang in there.

Winter is tough to generate lawn servicing business. Most residentials don't even think about their yard until spring time. You must understand that most people you do work for, are not that on top of those things. Some are, but most need to be reminded when to do cleanups, how often it needs to be cut, when to trim the bushes, etc. I am constantly reminding my customers of those things. I even call to remind them that I do snow removal. I begin calling a day or two before a big snowfall is expected. When they say I'll think about it, believe me, they always come back begging me to start mowing the lawn or please shovel my driveway. Thats the nature of the cutomers in this biz. I have felt the same as you, but I know that patience and hard work always pay off in the end. Good luck to you.

ditto to everyone else. people are thinking about the holidays and not about their yard. I'm planning to start the end of Jan. and keep going strong through march if I have to. I'm designing my door hangers right now and should have them printed in a couple weeks along with the business cards.
