• Mail Marriage or Post Cards...

Mail Marriage= single sided post cards (glossy or flat) to your size specs. All of your info on one side. The other side is left white and has simple info on it such as: Postal Customer (for the address) the post office insignia, a small disclaimer at the bottom in very fine print, and the return address of the printer.

This is less expensive than conventional two sided post cards and hits hundreds more homes. The down side is there is no way to target an area. I have a custom made mailing list that will put a post card in the mail box of every home I would like to service and that's it. This helps keep you on the properties you want to be on and out of the trailer parks and so on.

My example for this (using ficticous numbers) is as follows:
*Chances are my homes on MY mailing list would be included

~2500 single sided-no leg work for me-$350.00-attractice mailing-postage included- some target homes included
-or-
~1000 two sided post cards-no leg work for me-$475.00-attractive mailing-postage included-all target homes.

Any input!

I believe you answered your own question. If there is no way to target your advertising, then it is usually just a huge waste.

Wait until you get a call to cut the grass on a place where it is 5 feet tall, and they tell you (after you drive out and waste your time and gasoline) that they are not going to pay more than $20.00 for the job.

Woody:

I thought about that situation. The only thing that is attractive about it is the amount of homes reached for less $$.

Thanks for the input.

Can you really put a price on hitting your targeted homes? You have no clue where the 2500 will show up. I'd agree with Woody. It may be cheaper to send the greater amount, but in the end the lesser amount is the cheapest because plain and simple, it's MORE EFFECTIVE ADVERTISING.

Hi turfman,

Great question. I feel this is a trap many people fall into. I am with Mastermower and Woody on this.

I feel like I am in a tought moral situation.

It is not that I ignored anyones advice, I simply went with what i thought would work. Having saied this, all I have done is communicate with the printer and approve the proof. I would hate to back out on this. No money has been exchanged nor has any signatures been made. This is not the printer that I usually work with so our relationship is brand new.

I am able to pay $76.00 for 1000 doorhangers any hit my target homes or pay ~375-400 for 1,974 non target. Thursday was the day I approved the proof. Woud it be wrong to back out?

I usually wouldn't do business like this, but the difference in price make a huge difference in the way I will do things this year. I would love to take the $$ saved and purchase a new spreader gor granular apps this year. (I am liscenced).

Any input guys?
