  • <>City Ordinance on flyers<>

Last week I placed flyers on doors in an up class neighbor hood near my house. The houses in this place start at 1,000,000 dollars. Shortly after handing out flyers I got a call from a so-called executive from that neighbor hood. He stated that I needed I permit to hand flyers within the city and that I was going to be fined "big money" like some of the other places that put flyers on doors. So I went to city hall and it’s not legal to even leave flyers on doors. There is no permit. It’s only legal to knock on the door and then hand the flyer to the individual. What a dumb law!!! What makes me mad is no one follows this law. Even the big Fert Company’s. Do any of you guys have to work around stupid laws like this?

Some areas are like that. You have to be carful where put out flier. Your best bet is to do like Quality said.

WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY, DONT PASS OUT FLYERS THEN,GIVE THE CUSTOMER A FREE ESTAMITE,I HAVE BEEN DOING THAT WITH GREAT SUCESS. MAKE UP AN ESTAMITE SHEET{YOU CAN GET 2 ON A SHEET OF 8.5X11} HAVE YOUR LOGO, NAME,AND PUT DEPENDABLE BELOW IT. BELOW THAT PUT "YOUR FREE ESTAMITE". BELOW THAT PUT- "TRIM_____" "EDGE_____" "MOW______" . BELOW THAT PUT "CALL TODAY FOR WEEKLY SERVICE", PUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER BELOW THAT.
ONCE YOU HAVE SOME MADE UP,HAND WRITE "FREE" NEXT TO TRIM AND EDGE,LEAVE MOW BLANK. NOW HIT THE STREET,YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO LOOK AT A HOUSE FROM THE FRONT AND INSTANTLY SAY TO YOURSELF-ID' DO IT FOR $40 DOLLARS-HAND WRITE $40 IN THE BLANK NEXT TO MOW. YOUR EST. IS COMPLETE,IT TOOK YOU 15 SECONDS ,THEN,RUBBER BAND IT TO THE FRONT DOOR-AND DONT WALK THROUGH THE GRASS!!! THE CUSTOMER GETS YOUR NAME ,NUMBER ,AND THE PRICE THAT THEY THINK THEY ARE GOING TO PAY! YOU KNOW WHEN THEY CALL BECAUSE THEY SAY"YOU LEFT A $40 EST ON MY DOOR WHEN CAN YOU DO IT". THEN YOU TELL THEM "OUT OF RESPECT FOR THIER PRIVACY YOU DID NOT GO INTO THE BACK YARD AND YOU JUST NEED TO TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT IT TO MAKE SURE OF THAT PRICE -SET UP A TIME TO MEET,KEEP YOUR APT. AND ADD ON ANY EXTRAS THAT YOU CAN AT THAT TIME-YOU GOT YOUR FOOT IN THE DOOR,FOR NO LESS THAN YOU WOULD DO IT, YOUR CUST. GETS ALL THE INFO THEY NEED AND A "BALLPARK" PRICE,{THEY JUST THINK THEY GET A FREE TRIM AND EDGE,YOU WORK THAT INTO THE MOW PRICE}.WIN-WIN ,FLYER???WHAT FLYER?!!

I recommend not doing what bigT suggested. I never put a price on my flyers because the customer can hold that price to you, and fight until they keep it there. Like bigT said, make sure you look at the backyard before you give a set rate. I would leave out the pricing part and just say "Call for a free/ no obligation estimate"..

Some HOAs (home owner associations) that are private have "rules" against solicitors, door hangars, literature, etc. Often times they are unenforceable, but that's not the point. My experience has been to respect the rules. People today are tired of junk mail, spam, and other nuisance stuff that they don't want. Most of us, if we're honest, feel that way too on occassion.
Thanks to computer technology, today you can target your market much easier than just a few years ago. Here's an example. I live in Indian River County, Florida. I also live in a private development. By going on our county website and typing in that information you can get the name and mailing address of every person in my community. If you so choose you can then mail each and every person that lives there. Yes that method is labor intensive, but no more than leaving door hangars, or flyers. Other methods include using a professional mailing service that can target any market for you based on any choice of options including income, purchase price of home, number of children, etc. Similar lists exist for condominiums and include the names of the board of directors. All licensed businesses are listed somewhere, including yours.
You're already one step ahead of the competition just by seeking advice on this web site. Remember you will never really know what will work for you until you try it yourself!
Good Luck. Keep us all informed of your progress.

Bob has a great idea. I have tried direct mail in the past with far less success than with flyers. Most people, including myself, throw away junk mail. An envelope addressed to an individual will at bare minimum get a look at whats inside. great idea bob.
