I've put out about 1500 flyers now (500 today), and have had several calls (2 already from today's) resulting in cleanup or weekly maintenance jobs. Don't stop putting them out if you're still needing customers, because it's the cheapest most effective way to get your name out as long as your legs can handle the walking [xx(]. My legs will be hurtin tomorrow, and the feet too! Those high dollar houses are a *****, because the front door is about a 100 yds from the street. Don't give up, the effort pays off!

I already have received more income from my flyers than I spent on the flyers. However, I am getting my best accounts from networking myself. I am going to start putting flyers on for sale houses after they sell. Chances are good that the new owners will not have a regular gardner and will give me a chance.Gerry Preston

I put out 500 flyers a week and a half ago and have already gotten 15 calls. I have landed 6 of those jobs and just wrote up estimates on 3 more of those 15 today. I will be distributing another 500 beginning of next week in another neighborhood that has some nice size yards. One of the jobs that I landed was a job installing 20 yards of mulch after removing the old mulch, and edging 950 feet. The rest have just been for weekly mowing. I had one guy call and tell me to never put my flyers in "HIS" neighborhood again, but that is the area i have recieved 5 of the calls from. Guy must have grandchildren trying to get accounts over there for the summer!!

Nick,
When putting out flyers, I've found it best to put them somewhere around the front door of the house. Remember it is a Federal Offense if you open an individuals mail box to insert a flyer or any other literature. If you stick the flyer between the mail box and the outgoing mail flag, there is a possibility that the wind will blow off the flyer pror to anyone finding it.
Door hangers also work great, and that is my preference over flyers.

We are a small operation, so we don't have time to put out as many fliers as we would like. We did make the time to pass out fliers door-to-door on 2 busy residential streets in our city. From these fliers: 4 clean-ups, 4 regular weekly accounts, 1 gutter job, and today a lady from Chicago that owns property in our count called to get an estimate because her friend that lives on one of these streets had kept our flier and gave her our number. I'm guessing that we passed out about 250 fliers. Also, the 4 accounts we got are good ones, lawyers' homes, etc. Very well manicured and easy to take care of. Also, one of the homes has a lot of tree work that needs to be done which we referred to a close business associate of ours. Keep passing out those filers!!

Does anyone have a good source for blank doorhangers, and software to design and print them? I'd like to do some relatively small runs of different ones.

My flyers aren't working. I've put out over 2000 in five days and the only call I received was from mall security telling me not to put anymore flyers out. Should I go door to door in neighborhoods instead of shopping centers, walmarts, etc. I did put out 300 flyers in a nice subdivision and didn't receive any calls. How can I get success out of my flyers?Originally posted by GrassMaster

You're putting flyers on cars? Oh, not good. Most people will chuck it on the ground when they see it.Originally posted by TommyB

You put 300 in a subdivision, got no calls? Did you put them on doors, mailboxes, where? Some people put them in a baggie with a rock, and drive by and fling into yard. Not too good, either.
Scan your flyer, lets see what you're saying, maybe we can help.

This is the wording on my flyer: Grasshopper Lawn Care, Tired of spending your weekends doing yard work? call me to service your lawn. serice includes: cutting, weedeating, edging & blowing * Free estimates*Dependable*Fast Service*New Equipment*Licensed*Insured*
I have a little logo of Grasshopper on it also with my name and number.
In the subdivision I hung the flyers on the front doors knob using a rubberband.

Well, I'd say that you did everything right, now just see if it works. I got a customer, from flyers, who had saved it for two months.
