  • Fair Tax

I have been listening alot to Neal Boortz and he has written a book out called the fair tax and it really sounds like the way to go. It has been endorse by Congressman Linder who has put it in a bill it sure sounds like a great replacement to the crud we have now. any of you heard about this ? what is you opinions. shoal

My radio is tunned in every day to the Boorttz show. The Fair Tax woulb be the way to go but we will never see it happen in out life time. To the average person's first impression it makes it look like it will raise sale taxes over 20%. And then you have the idiot politicians that run for election against politicians who support and it and they tell everyone that "so and so is trying to raise taxes over 20%". But anyways its a great book everyone should read it and support it if you like the idea.

IRS Employees need a new job!

They say if implemented it would drop down to as low as possibly 17%, I'm all for it because paying 30% to 40% in withholding is rough, at least they go to a flat tax everybody will pay their fair share when they make a purchase. Yeah Man!

I heard the main hold up is it would put close to 750,000 IRS employees out of work. Well that's just tough luck, I bet some of them really got a kick out of all the things they did to people that owed them taxes.

I would like to see a lot of them become self employed so they can see what it's like not having medical & retirement handed to them on a silver platter. What would be the shocker is they go to work one day & feel bad & don't do anything no big deal same amount of money working at the IRS this is done all the time, but self employed they don't make money... The real world!

If it creates a smaller govt., then I am all for it. Not to mention, it would make the anyone here illegal pay because I would think you would have to be a citizen to get the prebate.

There is no way in this world the Government is going to get smaller, even if you eliminated 25 of the states. It's way over 50% fat now.

Remember the old days when you had to wait for someone to die if you wanted a job working for the City, County or State? No more they just create new jobs.

The City Manager retired a couple of years ago. The assistant City Manager got promoted to the City Manager. 30 days later he asked to get a raise from $90,000 to a $125,000 a year. Way over $50,000 a year to much working for the city doing anything, I think. They wouldn't give him the raise some how & another the Media got a hold of this.

He said on TV & was quoted in the papers that as a Assistant City Manager that he didn't do anything work wise except sit in his office & to just eliminate his old job & give him the raise. He got the raise to a $125,000 & they hired another Assistant City Manager at $90,000 a year.

I knew a girl going to college back in the 80's that filled in for people on vacation & sick leave at the Marine Corp Logistics Supply Center at the main administration building in Albany, Georgia.

Nobody ever knew what the person's off job was, she had absolutely nothing to do. She would sit next to the copying machine for what ever floor she worked on. She would ask to do the copies while they talk griping about their job. She took a brief case to work, with cross word puzzles, books to read, finger nail file, polish & what ever plus her home work.

She finally broke down & quit because she filled in for about 3 months straight & it almost drove her crazy. A job like that could turn you into a vegetable very quick.

My wife has an aunt that worked in the cafeteria on base over in Gulf Port Mississippi. They had a guy that had been putting 2 slices of bread in a bag. Over a 5 year period, he only worked about a year. He had claimed 3 back injuries & 2 neck injuries. He sat in a chair doing this & people brought him the bread & bags?

This guy could be a shoe in for Post Master General, maybe not because the guy did actually place the bread in the bag for 1 out of 5 years. Over 40% of Postal workers are out on job injuries. 60 minutes has done several specials on them over the years the last one they randomly picked 10 people, all 10 were out on workers comp & all had physical jobs that paid them cash.

I'm not going to say who all has said this nor how many times I've heard this but they say if you can get a civil service job & keep it for 5 years, then get sorta hurt with back or neck injury you can retire for life.

No maybe not all are like this but there is plenty doing this as I type now.

LOL, our Post Man several months ago told our UPS Man that he had it made. The UPS guy was covered in sweat as most are here in Georgia, I spoke up for him & said if he worked at the Post Office like he does for UPS, would you even have a job?

Go to our post office & try to break 2 of them up talking about something behind the counter if you're in a hurry & see what happens. Talking about going postal?

Hey I live in a town with 1,000's & 1,000's of civil service workers & I know what I'm talking about. Yeah I know there's a few that work but that's about it.

You know we could go to a flat tax & socialized medicine at the same time, we could take the IRS people & move them over to help run the socialized medicine thus killing 2 birds with one stone.

As long as our country is ran by rich folks things will never change for the better for the working class folks which is the back bone of our nation.

There is several catches they leave out.

              NO DEDUCTIONS!

              Zero, zip, none!

No tax write off, no school, child or medical deductions. None!

Something else they don't say much about since it will not be there in the flat tax.

              Social Security.

Think about it. How do they collect SS if there is no income tax?

As for socialized medicine let me ask you something.

How would socialized lawn care look, what would it be like?? Would it be better with better looking lawns or would all lawns look the same all mowed the same way with the same problems and no way to go to another better lawn care company?? Would there be only one brand of mower and if we had problems with that brand what would we do since it's the only one in town??

That's what socialized medicine would look like, you do what they say and take what they tell you, period. Nobody would care since no mater what they get paid the same for everybody.

Fair tax doesnt have any deductions other than the prebate, where you get your money back for any and all expenses around the poverty level. It is a sales tax just as most states have now. So, there aren't any deductions needed. What you CONSUME is taxed, the money you MAKE is not. Everything is only taxed once, whereas today it's taxed about 8 different times before we buy it. The prices themselves would lower without all of the hidden taxes. (i.e. on a JD mower, John Deere pays income tax on every $1 they make, Kawasaki pays income tax on every $1 they make, and so on. The fair tax has no cororate taxes, so with all of those hidden taxes taken out of the equation, the price is reduce anywhere from 15-25%. YOu then pay your national sales tax [between 17-25%] and you're right to what you were paying for the mower, except no income taxes to fool around with deductions at the end of the year.) Saying you dont like the Fair tax because it doesnt have any deductions is like saying you dont like horse racing because it doesnt have engines. Its comparing apples and oranges. There are no deductions because there's no income tax. You dont hear people complaining about state sales tax because it doesnt have deductions do you?
About socialized medicene, I hope you were kdding GM?!?!? All of us on these forums are enjoying the benefits of a free market society where we can open our own business and compete to make a nice income. YOu want to take that away from the medical industry and socialize it where you can't choose your own doctor, hospital, health insurance, etc? I think that's a joke. In Canada, youre on a waiting list for 3-4 years for a heart bypass surgery. They actually send you a letter that reads something like, "If you arent already dead, your coming closer to your date for surgery. Please contact us to schedule it" but in more professional terms. My father had a heart Cathorization that found he needed a triple heart bypass surgery and was in for surgery by the end of the month, and that was at North Florida Regional, which was ranked #2 or 3 Nationally for open heart surgeries at the time.
How do you explain the hundreds of people that come to America from Canada trying to get surgeries and medical attention because their medical system wont get to them soon enough. What about how the best medical doctors in socialized medicene countries come to America to practice because they see the problems with socialized medicene? One thing that does suck about our medical industry is the insurance costs because of all the lawsuits by ambulance-chasing lawyers. But that's another topic.
My wife is a nurse and will tell you like most in the profession will, you think there's a shortage now for doctors and nurses? Wait till you input nationwide socialized medicene. You havent seen nothing yet. One reason we have the shortage we do is because we have so many social medical programs today that our nation and it's hospitals cant afford to offer. Bottom line is if we ever got to Socialized Medicen (which is a reality if Hillary gets elected), we would be only steps away from the one thing we fought so hard against.....SOCIALISM.

DVAMower, SS and Medicare taxes would still be collected because these taxes are deducted off the gross income and are not in any shape or forum part of the "income tax".

The "fair tax" will never be inacted because the politicians would never be able to hide their pork barrel benefits for their districts/states that are scattered around the tax codes.

The other reason it will never be enacted is its name "fair" tax. Any tax change would have to be seen as "revenue neutral", thereby neither raising or lowering tax revenue. Taxes collected would go down, and Democrates don't want to be giving a tax "break" to the "rich".

The most fair tax is seen as a "regressive tax" and that tax is a national sales tax. The democrates say that it "hits" the poor more, but that is pure fiction. A national sales tax hits those who buy more goods and services. "User" taxes have been popular since Reagan, and a national sales tax is essentially a user tax.

It is curious that in WA State where we have a sales tax and no income tax, it is the rich people and big corporations like Bill Gates, the Gates Foundation, Beoing, Safeway, Paul Allen, etc who have beenm pushing for an income tax and doing away w/ a "regressive tax" like sales tax. WHY? These people/corporations would pay no tax!

Gee whiz! Now that's a rip!

I firmly believe that if enough people got fed up with the current tax system that 7 different CPAs can read one paragraph of and come up with 4 or 5 different correct meanings, then we could change it to a better system. It wont be tommorrow, and it wont be in the next year.....but we could elect someone to get it done. Enough people in enough sates get their congressmen and senators to talk about it, it could be done.

I agree that it would be EXTREMELY difficult, but nothing is impossible.
