this is for the guys who ask the question about when to do it or is it to early to do it. i sent out 99 postcards last friday to everybody who i did work for last year no matter whether it was a $50 flower bed or a $1500 mulch job. anyway i got two calls this week so far. first was from a lady who i aerated, seeded and fertilized her yard in the fall. she wants weekly mowing ($50 ) and right now she needs mulch, a cleanup and 6 crape myrtles trimmed. she also wants crabgrass control and the fall program again also. total income almost $4000. another one is a women who moved in a house that i did a few things for last year and i just sent the card as homeowner since i didn't know who moved in. anyway she wants the same thing as the other except only 3 trees in her case and a smaller yard ($35 ) for weekly mowing. total income almost $2000.

Its a whoping 13 degrees today and supposed to be only 6 on Superbowl day. I don't think many people are thinking about lawnservices by me. We still have half of a winter to get through. We havent even seen the bulk of our potential snow yet.

I have had an ad in the paper all year, got a call yesterday (super bowl sunday) and went and placed a bid, she was amazed that I actually did it on a Sunday. I did tell her that I did not work on Sunday, but placing bids was like going visiting. I will know here in a couple of days if I got it or not.

Steve: Nice! 99 postcards in February equals $6,000.00! Great return on your investment!

Old Hat: I'd be real surprised if you don't already have that one.

I think I got it, and her quote was, "is this what you wear while mowing?" I was wearing my button up company shirt and my camo cowboy hat. I told her that was my uniform and she was rather impressed. She said that she had called 2 other lco.s for estimates and that she would call me back. So I am thinking I have it, just not formally yet.

                  Steve,
Great results on the postcard. What did it say? How did it look?
I mail out a customer survey to all customers from the year in December and the last question on the survey is, " Is there a service or product that we are not currently offering which would be beneficial to you". This has landed us 3 or 4 other jobs.

my postcards are very basic, nothing fancy at all. to the point with very little clutter at all. today my wife and i put out about 600 in the flyer / paper boxes in target neighborhoods that i work in. 1000 tomorrow, then back to mulching thursday since it will be warmer around here.

no. i changed them last spring after i ran out. the front is still the same with some words changed on the back and more services listed. i just had 5000 more printed up a couple of weeks ago.
