  • start up ?

I have been cutting lawns for a guy with his own business, and I do it as part of my full time job as a goundskeeper at a school. This year the gentleman wants to hand me over a handfull of accounts b/c he got a full time gob now as well. So I have been doing as much research as possible and trying to find out how to become all legal. I think I have most of that understood and now I am trying to get equipment. Do I have to wait untill the business is all legal to purchase the equipment and be able to write it off ? On the same token, will i be able to write off my gas expendatures as soon as the business is started

Another question I have is. This year is going to be my most expensive having to buy all of the equipment. So what happens if my profits are minimal or even worst case negative. Is that going to get me in any kind of unseen trouble??..... I personally don't care if I break even this summer (which shouldn't happen, I should be able to be in the green) I know that after the equipment is aqquired and I pick up a couple extra accounts for next year, there will be even more profit.

B/c i mean right off the bat you have Line trimmer, blower, mowers, gas, trimmer line... then the business aspect.... paying for the name and registering it, then taxes, ins. blah blah, you guys know the routine. I know its going to depend on the accounts themselves, but anyone else start off with about 15 bi-weekly accounts. How did you guys do it. I also would appriciate it if someone could maybe post links where I could get my pesticide liscenses. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Question? I'm just a couple months into the biz & an wondering if when you all write off expenses, do you right off the actual cost of the item or the cost of the item plus sales taxes?

include all taxes that is an expense.
I just keep all of my recipets and log them every so often then at the end of the year I take it all to my bookkeeper and cpa and let them fight it out!

I dont think you have to register a bus. name I just went to the closest town and got a bus. lic. for free since I don't live there and from there I got ins. thru nationwide then went to the bank and opened a DBA. Shop around for ins. Some is really expensive.
          Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.
