When you and an employee go your separate ways, do you ask for your shirts back? I'm just curious because I just got new shirts in and and gave this one guy 4 two weeks ago. Now he decides to disappear for a couple days, again, so he's gone. I'm not too worried about the cost of the shirts as I am about the bum going wherever with them.

Only had to do it once, but yes, I did get them back.

My old boss did this. You couldn't get your final pay check until all clothing was returned. Otherwise the cost of the clothing would be deducted from the check. I was later told by someone this isn't exactly legal, but I dunno for sure. :alien:

I'd ask for 'em back - you have a legitimate concern. But if he just disappears at random, it's highly unlikely he'll give a rat's azz about returning the shirts.

Yes, I do get the shirts back. They will likely get tossed in the trash anyway.

I have let them keep the shirts so far. I supplied them with 3-4 and if they want more then I will sell them to them at cost. I figure if they are wearing my shirt then they are advertising for me. You never can tell when someone will see it.

If they pay a part on the shirts they are thiers, if the co. pays it all & for cleaning then they are the co.'s.

I pay 8.00/screen printed shirt so I just let them go. So far this year I have given as many away to friends & bus. associates than my employees have taken.

He can always wear them with the new landscape company.

I could really care less if the shirts ever get used again, I just don't want him wearing them when he's not affiliated with me anymore. He's doesn't run in friendly circles if you know what I mean. I will give him his props though, he was probably one of my hardest workers ever.

Can't hurt to ask but, is I wouldn't push it. Your parting ways and shirts are the last of my concern.

I didn't push it, I just asked once and I got all my shirts back; washed and folded.

I usually just take the cost of the shirts out of their pay for the first week...only about 30 bucks.
