I am now getting everything in the works to start up in the 2011 season. My father in law has a construction sales background for the last 20 years and has now been out of work for a year. I was thinking about bringing him on to do estimates for me so that I can focus on doing my jobs. If I brought him on as a sub contractor paying based only on commission, would I still have to carry medical and Workman's comp on him?
Also, if I did bring him on what should I throw his way as far as commission? Should I give him a good percentage of the first job, or a recurring bonus for as long as the customer was still a customer?
For a little background, I will only be doing basic scaping, maintenance, fert and weed control (yes, I'm legal), and snow removal for the first few years.
Thanks in advance for any info.
