We do get some of that. But I have to tell you.. The female homeowners are the ones that higher us..As their husbands don't/won't cut the lawn!

When I do get a "snotty" wife.. I just smile and ask her a puzzling question about the lawn or flower beds.. I never see her again!

                    Thanks for the support!

                          way to go girls

it's so nice to know there are other women out there mowing grass. I just started in the business. I am helping out a friend who has a business cleaning houses and re modeling repo houses. I am just mowing yards for her and only making $10.00 a yard. so i have to do alot of yards to make money. I did recently make my own business cards and put an add in the paper for my services. I am also thinking of doing flyers. I only have 2 regular clients right now and charge them $30.00 to mow edge and leaf blow. I am hoping for more REAL business, but will also continue to help my friend. It has been a bit discouraging for me I haven't really gotten any calls, but I guess they'll come until then I won't quite my true job A zoo keeper at the SAZ in TX. If any one has any words of advice talk to me. Best of luck girls.

Yes, women do run lawn mowing businesses. I am just starting out myself after seeing a few other women around with trailers in tow and working on other people's yards.

At first I thought that it might be too physical a job for a woman. However, after working for a week with a male on his rounds, I learned that while it is obviously an active job, it did not leave me unusually tired at the end of the day or week. And here you have to take into account that I have been a software engineer for the last 7 years - meaning, lots of sitting around and muscle wastage!

The idea is to use the correct tools. I did find the trimmer a bit awkward, but it became easier after I attached a shoulder strap to it.

I also will want to invest in a self-propelled lawn mower since that will make it easier still for me, especially since I live in an area with a lot of sloping terrain.

All in all, there is nothing hard about this job as long as you think about how to make it easier on yourself.

As for public perception of a woman turning up to do their lawns and gardens, they were all very positive. In the end it is a matter of ' can you get the job done to meet your customer's expectations'.

I love the work and am preparing to enter the fray when the summer season starts in September.
