  • who is the buying decision maker?

    Hi,

I wonder who makes the decision to hire somebody to do their gardening/mowing. Is it the husband or the wife, or both?

Is there any research on this?

    Thanks,
    Digger.

Im going to say 75% its the husband. 15% its the wife and 10% maybe its a joint decision. Just a guess but id bet im close.

Sorry Seascape but you are wrong. I believe that I read a statistic in Entrepreneur magazine that said that women are responsible for 75% of the purchasing decisions. I think they also had an article to go with the statistics.

          2GirlsLawnService - from another thread.

But I have to tell you.. The female homeowners are the ones that higher us..As their husbands don't/won't cut the lawn!
          SPOT ON

In my experience it is the woman who organise the home. The men are to busy "working", watching sports, playing with their toys etc. lol.

No Seriously. Around 90% of customers who phone our call centre are woman. And these woman are the ones who usually do the hiring of contractors. From time to time I hear that they want to speak to their husband but most of the time this isn't the case.

lol @ we just let them think they're making decisions. - Seascape you're a clasic!

          The stats never lie!

I think if it's a one time install job, both have a say and agree ... for repeat maint I think the wife has more to say about it, writes the checks and the only thing a husband would be concerned about is whether the landscape company hired can be trusted to be on their property ... in other words no "shady characters" hangin around the property ... ... and this is why acting professional and "looking professional" is so important especially with residential ... that plus strong references and referrals

I would say that about 90% of all my customer interaction takes place with the women of the household. What strikes me as funny is that most of the time, when I do see the male client, he pays me. I guess she makes the decisions and he pays for them!!
If your lawn isn't done when I drive off, your neighbor owes me some money!

haha, I was going to post a thread on this but since its already been started. I counted them up and i deal almost exclusivly with the woman of the household. I think on nearly everyone i initially talked to the woman, and on some of them i will talk to the man and he will pay me, i don't know - just what i've noticed
