I just got my first customer. It is our babysitters parents. They called last night and asked if I was interested in doing some landscaping for them. I said yes! I am a little nervous though. This will be my first job. I really don't have the on the job experience. However, I have been taking landscape design thru a online course. I will meet with them next week and go over what they want. I really don't if I'm over my head or not. I feel positive about doing the work but, if the job sucks there goes my business. They know ALOT of local people. However, if I do really well, I hope to grow by word of mouth. I am going to need some help from all you with experience so stay posted. Jay

Get an experienced helper, or sub it out and work with them, making it look like you are in charge to the home owner. That way you won't worry about large mistakes, and the little ones if any will /should be noticed by the person working with you.
Just a thought.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but it doesn't sound like you got your first customer...it sounds like you got your first POTENTIAL customer. Big difference. Unfortunately, not every potential customer turns into an actual customer.
It's normal to be a bit nervous, but if you're honest with them about your experience level and capabilites, you will feel more comfortable then if you try to BS your way through it.
You may want to consider working fairly cheaply at first because you probably won't be very effiecient, and it takes some of the pressure off so you can work more slowly and deliberately. And you're still getting paid and gaining experience.
Good luck.
