I serve a five county area in GA and plan on joining the chambers in the areas I serve. Networking with other professionals is always a good way to make contacts. One example is a guy I know who is unhappy with the quality of current LCO. Turns out he's also THE main sales agent for an upscale golf course community near in my area. Not only might I get his maintenance but he's already asked me about sodding the back lawns of new constructions in this community!

from what I see it'a good ol' boy program, which could definetly give you some good leads. I have a friend that belongs to mine and he has them all dumbfounded to believe that he's somebody and capable of doing great things. Guess he fooled them.
If I was a f/t'er I would join just to start running in a different circle and rub some elbows.

Joining the chamber of commerce is an excellent way of getting your name in front of additional people. It may not lead to any new commercial contracts or residential contracts for that matter. But when it comes to advertising, the more people you get your name in front of the better.

I joined our Chamber, but not to get extra work. Many times they will offer discounts on Workers Comp, or your health insurance. Not all cities operate their Chamber the same. Some are great, I have heard others that suck. We got excellent rates on our health insurance because they put all small businesses in our city into a group, which significantly lowers our cost.
